Well to follow up on my last day at work it was a hard day. I have a lot of friends and I will still be able to talk to them and follow their lives but it was a tough day for me.

I officially retire end of April but Friday was my last day of work. They told me in April they would something for me so Friday was a big surprise but was good. I have a picture that they did of me of course it is photo shopped to an extent. I don't have long hair! Lol
Today is my first day of retirement and I will let the day tell me what to do.

OK, what's the cabin project? new outbuilding? extra room?. I retired 3 years ago and am finally building the cabin of my dreams. In the past 3 weeks, I have managed to spend about 8-10 days working on the cabin construction in the 55-70 degree weather. No finer feeling on earth. Congratulations. In about 6 months, you will be saying, "why did I not do this sooner?" Go do the spring cleaning at the cabin, thats spring cleaning of ones mind, not the dust and cobwebs in the cabin. Make sure you are around to watch the sun go down on the porch. Great for the soul.

Littlecooner>>> funny you mentioned adding on. Lol I do have a lot of things I want to do at the cabin. I would like to add another 6 feet and 10 feet wide. That is something I have been pondering. I want to repair fence lines and I will be planting trees in a few months. there is so many things I will do just need to get a plan.

Oh I do know what you mean that there is no other feeling like it. When I'm not there I want to be there.
Thanks

Ohhhhh, so "neb" is really your pirate name but the landlubbers think it's "Pirate Doug." Mmmhmm, we know better.

Congratulations, ole salt! Here's to cabins, carving, and carousing -- not necessarily in that order.

Julie2Oregon >>> actually I have many names or been called many names. Lol Thanks and good luck on your build.

turkeyhunter >>> I wish I was closer I would come help you build that dance floor. Lol I have nothing better to do. Lol
I might add on I could go bigger but I'm built on a ridge where I can't run out of room to build or I would be over the cliff. I dream a lot but will see if I want to tackle it. It just about killed me when I built with all the hauling and packing everything by foot and hand. You and your little women can dance the night away. Lol Thanks TH

Ha, Ha, Ha, it is not a cabin without a porch to sit on. Then its just a place to get in out of the weather.
Also, you are not invited to my cabin. No way. Building in the mountains about half way up in NE Ala. Have been adding a little extra protein to the leaf cover while working on the cabin in the past few weeks ( you understand) to help keep those 4 old long beards around for a few more weeks. I was putting down metal roofing yesterday afternoon around 2 pm with an impact driver and I kept hearing this "Kluk, Kluk, Kluk" from around the bench where the "protein" has been places ever time I hit the impact driver. I guess they though I should leave and let them enjoy dinner in the quite. Saw a very nice 8 pointer and doe last week on the way in, could have set on the porch and it would have been a chip shot. O, scratching all around the cabin now. Expecting to run one off the roost at the cabin one day. Cabin building and ownership is fun.
Side note- last Saturday, watched 2 Whooping Cranes about 600 yards from my house for the last 20 minutes of the day, wow. only 600 of those birds alive on the face of the planet and 2 of them were here "in my back yard". Amazing planet we live on and a cabin in the middle brings a smile to the face.

Littlecooner >>> interesting place to have a cabin AL. You have a lot of snow there yet? I will be turkey hunting in about 6 weeks also. You talking about Whooping Cranes is an amazing site. I have witnessed them before in my area but haven't seen any in recent years. I have watching a mating/nesting pair of Golden Eagles. The ritual they preform this time of year is one of natures amazing site. I would love to get in closer but they don't want me there so I observe from a distant.
I can relate to your enthusiasm and love that you have and what you are trying to accomplish. Thanks for posting and keep us all posted on your build.

Congratulations! I put in my 10 year notice today...well verbally anyway. I'll be 60 years old then. Fortunately I'll have a pension, unfortunately it'll only get 47% of it. I could go to 65 but why,...time is more important than money I think. I have so many things to keep me busy that I'm not worried in the least of being lost.
Have FUN!

Retirement isn't the end it is just the start! Wealth to me is TIME and has way more value to me then money because you can't get any more of it. Time is priceless!

Now it is my time to make the best of each day and just live life. I wish you the best when it happens for you!

turkeyhunter I feel your pain, its tuff when the kids move away. My son and his family landed in the Madison Wi. area where their work took them. Thank god for skype we can talk to the grandson weekly. It seems to get harder every time to make the trip, but maybe when I retire in 4 years I will have more time to travel, just cant hug those grand kids enough.
