WOW that is great! How much honey do you usually get from those two hives?

None yet... You usually don't get honey until year 2

Richintheusa, is there natural forage for the bees where you are, or just the garden you planted? I would like to try this as well.

I have two hives at my farm, they belong to a friend who is an active bee keeper. They arrived last August, by fall he took a box off , completely full , probably 25 -30 pounds of honey in each. They were full colonies when they came. I have been watching them on nice days if above freezing, sometimes you see them peeking out, if you disturb them.
Have been building some boxes and frame parts this winter , he will split the hives in early spring, if they make it through the winter. Santa brought me a bee suit, so I can get more personal with them. If you have wild flowers, clovers etc in the area, they will do well. old 243

Creeky, our weather is too cold this morning , to wear it outside anyway. But looking forward to spring. If you have a few acres, you might talk a bee keeper into moving in a few hives. Interesting thing to watch. Go to Ontario bee keepers assoc website if you need info. old243

thx old243. i have these black locust trees. used to see millions of bees during the spring blossom. every kind of bee imaginable. so loud you had to yell over them to talk.

was really quiet two years ago. last year was better. fingers crossed.

I imagine the honey off those trees would be amazing. the scent in the yard for the two weeks they bloom. like some sort of halcyon days.
