Thanks, silverwaterlady! It is so beautiful here! 😊 A happy change from flat, virtually treeless West Texas, lol. There's been little adjustment. It feels like home. Or it will when I'm not surrounded by boxes, lol.

Yeah, I'm really enjoying the wonderful produce and much fresher food. And the clean air and, up until a few days ago, the perfect weather. But I'm glad for the rain!

Sorry I haven't updated in awhile. I was exhausted at first after that long trip and busyness right away. I slept and slept! Since then, I've been trying to get a bit settled in the little apartment AND make preparations to move out on my land next month.

It doesn't look like I will be able to get the main cabin/septic/etc. done before winter so I'll be wintering in the shabin. Compost toilet, genny, woodburning cook stove are ordered. I'll have the well drilled in the next few weeks. Found an awesome hand pump that works down to 150 feet and will coexist with an electric pump, too, in the future. You can attach a hose to the end so that will make things easier.

Champion has come out with some nice new generators. I decided on a 4750 watt duel fuel with electric start.

And because the shabin is so temporary, I wasn't sure what to do about heat until I found the "cook stove" loophole that lets you skirt EPA regs. And the tent stoves that are small but efficient. I bought the Colorado Cylinder Spruce stove that comes with a warming tray (increasing the cooking surface) and a 2-gallon hot water tank that fastens to the stove.

It's coming together! I can't wait to get out to my land. Met the folks next door. Super-nice, super-chill. Off-grid.😊 Interesting gent across the street! Retired actor now in his 80s who was a regular character on the Dukes of Hazzard and was in the original Planet of the Apes movie! And then there's the pot farmer on the other side, hahaha!

Oh, yes, life is going to be colorful!

Thanks, naturelover66! That's my Charley. He's a fearless little rascal. I'll have to keep a close eye on him in the forest. He'd run right up to a bear and bark at it!

It was a blast! Always such fun with you two! Lots of laughter, and great advice, too! Looking forward to next week!

Were you still in town for the incredible clouds over the mountains with rainbows? Amazing. We're very lucky to be living amid such beauty.

I stopped at the Dollar Tree after Home Depot. Didn't see any flamingos. I'll keep an eye out. ;)

I'm not sure. I rescued him from death row at the pound. We think there's some shih-tzu in him, maybe some terrier or poodle for the slightly curly coat? He has the shih-tzu ears and face.
