Post up the game you've taken this year.
My 10 yr old took his first buck this morning on the opening day of Youth Hunt.
Ty is 10 yrs old.

Didn't get one in Spring, but got a fall turkey this year. (My 2nd turkey ever!) A decent adult hen. Tasted delicious!

WAY TO GO TY!!!
I remember my first deer when I was 12. Took him with a .243 and still shoot it for deer and hogs. Actually just took it to the gunsmith to fix the safety and put a new scope on it.

No moose this year, only a wood bison.
A very interesting hunt for sure and a big animal to deal with.

OH wow! I've never seen this before. I'm assuming a wood Bison is just a bison that does not roam the plains?? What state is this and is this a popular hunt/yearly hunt?

This is an annual hunt in Yukon. This was a transplanted herd in the 80's. The target number for the herd was 1000 animals. Because they are so big and protect each other there are virtually no predators and therefor very low calf mortality. Because of this a permit hunt was introduced in the late 90's. This permit hunt was still unable to keep the herd numbers in the targeted area so an open hunt was introduced. All successful hunts must be reported within 7 days and the season could end at any time depending on the number of animals that are harvested.

That Bison will fill the freezer for sure. I remember the one my dad shot gave us over 400 lbs of ground, plus roasts, steaks, stew meat and much more.

My grandson, got a nice 6 point white tail buck yesterday afternoon. At my farm. It is his second deer. We had it all dressed out last night. Today I spent the afternoon cutting it up for the freezer. Still have to finish making hamburger. Also have a big batch of venison jerky, marinating, ready to dry. Very tasty snack. I worked as a butcher for several years , many years ago. This knowledge comes in handy, when the hunt is on. Good luck on your various hunts. old243

Wow. Congrats guys! That wood bison is a giant. We were fortunate enough this year to have been able to harvest a cow moose at our moose camp. We archery hunt. My buddy and I paddled a creek and were able to get into the 35 yard range from a cow. We got her with our Excalibur crossbows. The picture is of my buddy who tag teamed the feat with me. Feels like the most Canadian thing we've ever done... . I was also able to harvest my deer tag 4 days after moose camp. Needless to say, I'm very thankful for the fall I've had and am passing along the gratitude and sharing with friends and family. Congrats to all of you guys and gals and good luck with the remainder of big game seasons!

I am kind of shocked that anywhere allows cow moose hunting. Must be an extremely limited draw.

Why is it shocking that there would be cow moose tags available? I hunt way up in Northern Ontario in an area where they are attempting a habitat reclamation for caribou. Word is that there are attempts to stop the encroachment of too many moose into this area, which is mere kilometers north of where we hunt. There are both bull and cow moose tags available almost everywhere in Ontario that moose are able to be hunted. The MNRF apparently does population survey counts and issues tags accordingly. For our group both last year (unsuccessful) and this year, with 6 guys applying we were not allotted any bull tags despite that being each of our first choices. As a default second choice we input cow for our hunting area as we are location limited to our hunt camp. Last year three of us were allotted cow tags by the province and this year 2 of 6 of us were given cow tags. If we want to hunt moose without having drawn bull tags we are stuck with having to attempt harvest cows.... a much more difficult feat, I might add. As cows do not tend to answer or react to calls, you have no choice but to cover miles to see if they are there. And also, we vowed as a group never to take a cow with a calf.

With sharply declining hunter population in Southern Ontario deer are now grazing along the slopes of HW QEW at rush hour. Moose tracks can be seen almost anywhere you go outside GTA. Coyote were howling outside of my place for about 10 years until more subdivisions have been built around. Going to work through Mississauga I could see coyote roadkill a few times, then the city promptly picked them up to not cause a stir.
There is a beaver hut in the storm pond in the middle of my subdivision for a couple years now, and the bugger cuts down the trees in the park.
Point being, wildlife is so abundant in Ontario these days, that a tag on cow moose should not be shocking.
What shocks me is how MNR in Toronto thinks they have to preserve entire Ontario for some "future use" by god knows who, but not for the people who live here and now. Sorry for a rant, I am seriously ticked off by red tape.

Bob likes to hunt grouse. He only got 9 this year because our ATV died on us. By the time we purchased a new one the weather turned.  Last year he got about 30.
Our guests had a successful year hunting bucks.

I have been saying for a wile now its my last year
but the bush calls me back. Went to a new area this year
, picked my stand sight on google earth ,Bingo 8.05 opening morning!!!!

Shot these plus a few more Saturday morning. The big bore my buddy is standing with is well over 300 lbs. We could barely lift him let alone load him. Time to figure out a loading system

Hunted at our camp last week. Got 2 nice bucks , a 12 pointer and a six pointer. My 16 year old grand daughter got the 12 pointer, very happy girl. Her second buck. Have been busy with cutting and grinding. Sausage and jerky presently on the menu.old243

Sparky, If you are up my way , I would be happy to give you a sample. I have been experimenting with recipes, present ones are excellent. Your hog hunts must be exciting and provide some good eating. We have none in our area, not sure we want them. old243

It's been several years since I've done jerky, sausage or snack sticks. need to finish my big smoker. If I ever get up past the north boarder I will hit you up for sure!! You don't want hogs, they destroy so much. They are worse than rats, I've never seen a more destructive animal that breeds so fast. I hunt hogs from a blind. Now the guys that run them with dogs that gets exciting now and then. Some of the hogs are amazing when they come off the pit, other are well the dog won't even eat it

I was able to harvest a cow elk this past week, about 6 miles from my little cabin.

Terralove, the coyotes will be back. They were gone from our suburbs for years but are now a problem. There is a pack a couple of blocks away now that seem to be hunting my GSD. They have no fear of man any more. If they ever get within 5' again, I have a Ruger that will teach them some fear.
In the KS early season I got a doe. (I need to figure out how to post pics here.). The back strap is great. It's still archery season so I'm trying to get another right now. Back to the hunt.
