Has anyone ever had friends or relatives come and stay a bit too long?
Is this a common problem when u have a cabin or cabins on some land?do u have free loader brothers or long lost relatives come and want to stay for free for unlimited amounts of time. Are they welcomed?do u care if they stay on your land?while u are away?do u put them to work?
i know my brother who is my baby brother and almost 50 would give his eye teeth to pull up and stay for ever for free.he would be helpful i am sure if he did not burn the forest down.lol.
or do u find most do not even want to darken your door cause u live out in the boonies and no one does?my daughter does not even want to see our cabin or the land.we give her the willies.

HA! The wifey goes stir crazy when we are at our place (we don't live there but go for extended stays of 7-10 days). So far we have kept busy with various build and/or repair jobs but we'd actually love to have company, quite the opposite of you, cabingal3. Problem is we are so far out from most friends that they have to make iron-clad plans to be there and one little glitch changes everything. We can't just get "drop-in" company a mile and a half behind a locked gate either.

"If you build it they will come." To quote a line from a movie.

Too posh a place and you will have "friends" showing up or wanting to use the place that you never knew you had. We have also kept the location of our place somewhat private to avoid twitters and pishers wanting to visit our place to bird watch and check out the wild life.

We kept all this in mind when we were planning out things. Our shed/cabin is only big enough for the two of us. If people want to stay at the property it has to be when we are there. We do have a "guest tent pad". We left our driveway very rough so no one in their right mind would think of hauling up a 5th wheel or trailer. A car likely would not make it up without damage. We are only about 1.5 hours away from family and friends so they visit for a couple of hours during the day and then head for the comfort of home leaving us to enjoy our place.

our 175 acre island is owned by my extended family, most having either a cabin or rv on site. All have kids, several have grandkids, and on summer long weekends there is as many as 20 people enjoying themselves with family dinners, coffee in the morning, conversation, fishing, swimming, tubing, kneeboarding, hiking, paintball, quads, dirt bikes, noise, movies, campfires, you get the picture. There is a 700 square foot "guest" cabin, so most mornings there are teenagers sprawled on every bed, sofa, or floorspace available. Its fun, and every family member, young and old, always has great memories of the place. My wife and I have our own 400 square foot cabin some distance from the guest cabin, so we often enjoy some peace and quiet as well.

When I lived in Florida, I could expect guests every year, especially winter. They didn't overstay their welcomes, and I made it clear up front that I would not take vacation time to entertain. I also would let my dog lick the dishes, and joke about not needing to wash them... That may have helped keep the visits short.

Few wish to visit my one-room cabin with no running water, no electric, and a port-a-john.

well-our place is out so far-and at first when we were out there, our neighor would visit us.We did not mind him cause he is full of interesting info.Neighbors have been so helpful and stop in from time to time. They have been so grand.some homemade bread or when we were staying out there and needed a place to clean up-some would offer for us to stay at there little back cabin and shower up and stay the nite.we never wanted to put anyone out.so we stay alot to ourselves cause we are doing all the work by hand and ourselves.we stay so busy for the limited time we have out there. We love to have our grandkids out there with us.So far they are the only ones who were game to go with us.Our grandson swears the drive to the woods is not a 5 hour drive but 12 hours.we had my fil and mil out there.we sat under the trees on a summer day and the breeze blew thru.it was wonderful.we told out neighbors about the land up there and they showed up and bought some land by us.that was fine.we are looking forward to seeing what they do.mostly the land is so far out in the boonies.no one shows up.i sure am on the lookout to see who gets to go to our woods.no people who toss there ciggerette butts down on the ground is the only person i poo poo.But if i could get my daughter out there even if she is a ciggerette butt tosser i sure would be happy.she is a citified gal.i would like to take my oldest boy.mostly what happens is if anyone does not drive.we do not have alot of room to fold them up into the back of the jeep.
bugs we are like u.we have just enough room for the two of us and if they want to stay-we have to be there.
