Its amazing the expertise you get from here and no one wants to charge you for the advice makes you feel like you're among friends. Just wanted to say thanks for that
like alot of the new members I am so glad to have found this site I have learned so such from here. I am afraid some people think I have just lost mind my but I have caught the cabin bug. my husband and I are working on a 10x20 cabin, started out as a remodel of an old rv but once the walls came off so did the 2x3s. now we are in the dry and working on the inside. I have to say there is no better feeling then being in the mountains and feeling like you are apart of it I Don't want power in our cabin because it seems like with that comes the tv and other normal Things that will take away the reason it feels so great to be there.

Awesome! Lots of character too, love how you kept the front piece of the camper trailer. The french doors and deck around the tree are a nice touch too! Truly unique, good work!

Never been one to do anything like someone else I did get alot of my materials from different places I found a business that was redoing a building that haven't been too long ago remodeled so I raided the dumpster. I got enough insulation for the walls and part of the ceiling. I found flooring at lowes half price and had bought my ceramic tile for the kitchen that way too. Most of the wood I bought Half price by looking for chipped pieces. I got the doors for 20$ from a neighbor that was using them to keep his dogs in the fence. Just had to ask,I am not beyond stopping on the side of the road for something I can use. spotted me a dumpster today full 2x4 etc planning on stoppin there soon as I see someone working Most of the time they don't mind as long as you don't leave a mess behind. Gives them more room to throw more stuff away and cost them less if the don't have to pay for 2 pick ups. sure does help my pocket book and sometimes I get lucky and they'll bring me something else they have at their yards or tell me where to find more. have to say alot of the time my family helps me out and they don't seem to mind. Hopefully I'll be in the mountains for the weekend and get some of the inside done send pic s then see ya

Went to the land and worked done the cleaning I ve been needing to do. My daughters came to help and was a blessing we accomplished alot and the place looks alot better. It was cold and alittle windy but we used a lantern to knock off the chill in the cabin so it gave us some comfort. working on the kitchen area now

Now those are impressive snowmen! Also the cabin is looking awesome. It has a lot more space than it looks like from the outside, can't wait to see the progression!!

That's what I'm talkin' about......all these builds, shared projects, and fantastic structures, logs and all. Then up pops an aged modified RV that is a labour of love, not money, not so much even in technique, but steeped in aesthetic character, with (I'd imagine) little cash outlay.
Now that's talent...
Wish I had it
Alas, I don't
But I can sure appreciate it
Thanks for posting, squirrel. I just happened upon your post just now.

went to the cabin for a couple of days I actually spent the night by myself well and my dog had some vistors I guess they were coon hunters never saw them but scared me good then I got mad at myself for being afraid.Once i figured they were coon hunters I was ok figured they saw lights for the first time and wondered who was there.I had my pals with me but I didn't look at what I brought I brought my 410 (bertha) and brought 306 shell what a duh I did have my pistol so I was good After that I got to sleep and it was great stayed the next night hubby came too that was wonderful the cabinis still not completed but had a bed chair and lantern didn't need much more. it was a full moon and totally so cool I am looking forward to going back to stay next time I m taking a bigger dog and the right bullets and I think I have it made.

I am so impressed with the work already done. I showed my husband the beginning photo. Many folks would have torched it. Can't wait to see more, esp. the dresser.

i appreciate the complements and yes gary it is love that I put forth every time i go to work on it The land belongs to my in laws and is to be passed down to my husband and his brother after my mother in law dies which i hope is no time soon. I love her so I hate to think of life without her here We lost my father in law 5 or so years ago and he loved that land and labored for years cleaning and enjoying what he work to buy and shared with his family the little rv was their first to be brought up there and was let go til it was almost gone but i just couldn't let it go most of the other family members don't really seem to care alot about the place and i hope if they have a place to come that is comfortable they'll come and enjoy the place like he would want them to. I haven't put alot of money in it so far close to 500 to 600 $ but i think i have all the materials i need to complete it with another part about 6x8 for a bathroom with sink tub and a 5 gallon bucket for the toliet (so i don't pollute the creek since i am with in 6 to 10 feet away from it.
There are memories there and lots of fun times that I hope to see past down and more memories made there But mostly i want the family to remember how the are so blessed to have a little piece of heaven on earth thanx to my father in law and the for thought of what he had to pass down to his family and family members to come In this day and time its hard to find peace in some places I hope to help them find it here.
We call it the ole mans land

went up tothe cabin today was dreading it we have been having a leak in the roof was getting the floor wet Hubby put a flat roof with a slight tilt on it but i guess the cabin settled some so one place is holding water have been using patch stuff to seal it but but can't seem to stop it well I worked on it some Sunday and we had a bad storm Monday so I wasn't looking forward to going to see what mess I had Was pleasantly surprised no wet floor but a couple of spots on the ceiling nothing that won't dry and I am a little closer to stopping the leak plan on jacking the cabin up when I can get the hubby and a jack there at the same time. I am painting the walls and painting is not my favorite thing actually I hate it but there today I didn't seem to mind. I kept thinking its not long before I am done with this part and will move on to another more in likely the bathroom need to get that mess up out of the way. I ll post pics later. see ya

squirrel,

Does painting the OSB cut down on the glue smell. I have only used OSB on the exterior of my structures. It is certainly priced right vs plywood and I would like to use it to panel our camp but I don't know how long the glue smell lasts if not painted or if the paint cures the problem.

Thanks!

plan on jacking the cabin up

Please give that a bit of study before you put a lever to that jack.
It's really good to have as many jacks in as many places, jacked consecutively.
Not sure what you're trying to accomplish, but I'm talking from a heart breaking experience.
Sure like what you're doin' there, and what you're doin' it with.

It does, but depends on the OSB and paint used.

Thanks I will make sure to be careful if i have to jack it up hubby has another idea or two but I hope I fixed it so I won't have to jack it up or deal with it any more
The boards we bought really didn't have alot of smell to them but they sat for a few weeks before we put them up now all I smell is the paint the price was better then sheet rock was just going to put a light stain in it but I had the paint already.
I really appreciate all of your input I thonk about the stuff all of you write about and I take your advice into mind when I go to do things I have read about thanks turkeyhunter it makes me feel good to know I have a place to turn if I need answers I love this site tell my co workers and family about it and show them some of the pics you guys post they enjoy it too. see ya

started on my bathroom with tub sink and toilet Its going to be made from an old cooler unit that i got for free 6x8 hubby is worried about it being so close to the creek told him I had it under control thanks to this forum that i have read all about it nothing from the toilet will be hitting the ground (until its time to make compost of coarse) he just isn't sure so I got to be good and do it right. some where in this forum someone had a toilet that ran into a small round tank under their bathroom they used pete moss and sawdust any ideas where that post is not even sure about the who either

on my old hunting camp, i buried a old 250 gallon fuel skid tank ( metal) and was FREE!!!!!and dug a 50 ft drain field,4ft deep ditch --dug with backhoe,12 inches of #57 stone in bottom of ditch, plastic drain pipe attached to tank end--covered plastic drain pipe with gravel, and about 6 inches of gravel fill, layer of black tar paper and filled rest pf ditch with dirt and strawed and grassed. still works after 20 plus years and grass on top is still green so it working well.
