Hi guys. I have an LVL to LVL connection as seen here:
I am wondering how substantial of a hanger I need. This will support a 16 foot section of ridge beam.
I have found what I call a standard duty bracket:
And one that is heavy duty:
I am leaning towards the heavy duty but would like some thoughts. The heavy duty bracket is $100 and the standard duty $20

You have not provided sufficient information to produce a proper answer. Strong tie has a 388 page catalog on line that should be able for you to preform some calculations and produce an answer for this application. A lot of information, as to type of attachment screws or nails, etc can be obtained here and there are charts to provide maximum load, which is the proper answer to your question. You need size of square feet of what this beam will support to arrive at an answer of what is necessary for this attachment.

Paulz- that's what the heavy duty hanger referenced above is, only for a 14" beam. I think these are what I need.

It's entirely a matter of the calculated load. Anything else is just guessing. Getting the larger one is erring on the side of caution I suppose, but without load calcs you really don't even know if that one is large enough. Some simple calcs will show if you are in the range. When off-the-shelf connectors are not enough, engineers have connectors custom fabricated. How large is your building, and how much weight is being supported?

I am with bldginsp, you need to do, or have someone else, calculations on the load requirement for this beam. anything else is a disaster waiting to happen and i would not want to be under that beam with the disaster happened. If you are not comfortable doing or learning how to do load calculations, seek help. This is not something to play with or go into without proper guidance.

The ridge beam is 16 ft long and 14" deep. Weighs 200 lbs assembled +/-
The roof is a 12 pitch and will be metal (no snow load).

I ended up with the HGLTV3.514 hanger. It weighs 20 lbs and is extremely rugged and fully welded.
