not sure what i am doing wrong....
my cabin runs from a 12/2 outdoor plug, so i can plug it into my generator or extension cord running from my inverter. all was well so i decided to run 12/2 underground from my inverter(put male plug on inverter end) to an exterior plug in box GFI, didn't work, i'm getting the same voltage from the extension cord that i am getting from the 12/2 outdoor wire yet when cabin is plugged into 12/2 wire nothing, when i plug it back into extension cord works great, what in the world am i doing wrong?

i did the reset, even even replaced with a regular plug, and even tried by touching both 12/2 wires from the inverter to the male cabin plug and nothing, it's got to be something i'm missing, makes no sence

So best guess is that you have positive and neutral reversed on the 12/2 or new plug.

Ground the generator to allow the GFIC to work properly and do its job.

If you are trying to back feed the GFCI through the front I do not think it will work, the front is connected to the load side of the GFCI trip mechanism. It must be powered on the line side.
Also Ground Fault Circuit Interruper is a little misleading, it does not care if there is a ground there or not. It measures current flow on the hot conductor and neutral conductor and if they are not within about 5 milliamperes of each other the mechanism trips off. It also provides no over current protection. If you connect a 20 amp load or greater to a 15 amp GFCI it will not trip. That is the circuit breaker or fuses purpose.
