Not following you Fish. It's a heavy tool bag, not see through at all. Black on the inside, the color of the photo must be from the flash.

hold it up to the sun and see if you can see light though it. If so, its just the change in light triggering the camera. If its very opaque, then I'm wrong and that isn't it, but not sure why else it would trigger.

Some guys have made steel plates on their security boxes holding their cameras to flip over and avoid pictures, so the theory works, but not your bag.

in my case, I was throwing an old white t-shirt over it. Obviously, didn't keep the light out

Might be that the bag is not a tight fit at the bottom. Now that I know it is possible I'll work on it. Maybe put it in a box.

I'm going to have to try something like this. Last trip I ran out of my 100 free pictures due to it taking 90 pictures of me.

Crude, but effective so far. The lid is there, on the bottom, so all light is cut off. We'll see later today when the sun/shadow thing starts going on.

Brettny, I'm attaching it with the strap wrapped around a power pole, and I can position it without issue. Spypoint said, when they shipped me my 2nd replacement, that they had a manufacturer's defect in units made in December that they've since fixed, and I got my initial unit in December, and I'm going to assume the 1st replacement I got in March was made around the same time. Hopefully this new one works - should get it set up this month or next.

Just found water in my spypoint link micro solar yesterday. Quite a bit of water too. Mine is in one of there security boxes so no odd pressure on the case. It does look like the water has to be coming in the top. I blew out the water I could and put it back into service. I'm sure next time I'm there il find it not working.
How long did it take to get your replacement? Any issues with your new one?

Hmm, that worked.. Trying again..

So the bucket over the Moultrie works great. I did forget to take it off last night and got one photo of the inside of the bucket but I think it takes a photo every day as part of it's 'check in'. I don't believe the check in time is programmable, might be on the Spypoint.

Ah, Spypoint.. had another agent chat today. Last week I turned it on when we left the cabin, as usual. Got a notification a little while later that the SD card was incompatible. Huh? Right one, C10 SDHC 32gb, been in it working fine for many photos. So got back to the cabin today, power reset, reformatted, blah blah, no worky, just a green blinking status light every 5 seconds. Agent says not fixable, something inside, sending another camera

It's great that they quickly replace these things but man, this will be my third replacement. Meanwhile the Moultrie has been solid as a brick. They even updated their app and it works better.

So my replacement Spypoint arrived today. Never worked, right out of the box. I even swapped the battery pack and SD card with my working Link Micro. The working one still works and the new one just blinks slow green, same as the old one did (after about a month of working). Got on the chat, did the usual stuff, sending me another one.

I poked around online, it's hard to find Spypoint reviews because they have 3 pages for Spypoint.com links. But I did find some, and there are lots of 'these things are junk' reviews, but also as many good ones. My one working camera has been working for a few months, maybe it's hit and miss.

I may just leave this new replacement in the box and trade it for a hamburger.

Well maybe Spypoint is on its way out. They got popular for having ok gear at a better price than others, I guess if they can't sustain that price point and haven't really increased prices then quality will suffer.

Mine's flaked out a couple times in the past few weeks, I'm not getting all the pics I should, or sometimes pics show up in the app but no alert. It seem I'm behind on the firmware update again, last few times this happened updating the firmware took care of it.

I'm hesitant to say it but I haven't had any issues with my spypoint, going on 18 months....Just replaced the batteries for the third time.....

I am in the market for another cell camera or two, questioning if I should go another route....

Is yours a Link Micro? I believe they are the cheapest model they offer (with cell). In fact the way they've been exchanging them for me makes me think they make their money off the monthly cell charge more than the camera.

Seems the more you move them around, power off and on, the more photos they take and send, the more chance they have of failing. I really want to like them, the app and web site are still way above Moultrie's.

Yes link micro on Verizon....I have been using the 100 free pics/month, when hunting season comes around I tend to upgrade to the 5$ package if I run out....Helps me keep an eye on trespassers.....

I'm in the market for two more, but just afraid to get duds. At least it sounds like they are replacing them whenever you have an issue...

I wish I could say it's something I'm doing wrong but I don't know what, correct SD cards, new batteries...

Reviews, like I said, are mixed.

Latest replacement arrived yesterday, and is working. I have named them, this is number 6. Number 4 is also still working. I have only bought two, the others were replacements.

I really like the operational time of day option, really helps during times of alternating sun/shade, where the Moultrie without this option takes a bunch of photos, unless I am there to put the bucket over it.

So yeah, they are easy about replacing them, I'm sure they know about the reviews and problems, so if you don't mind dealing with it give it a go.

Couple of tidbits:

I wrote to Moultrie mentioning the Spypoint's ability to program time of day operation, the thumbnail photo included in the notifications and the speed and ease of their app. Their response was they know nothing of their competitors (yeah, right) but their new Delta series does the the time of day option.

What I have done with the Moultrie, that's working well, is change the notification from text to email, but left the 'person or vehicle' smart tag on text. So now, animals coming around at night just gets me an email instead of waking me up, but a human intruder gets me a text notification.

Tried to do the same with the Spypoint but as far as I can tell it's text only, no email option and no way to set options on notifications.

My newest replacement Link Micro #6 appears to be working, at least it was when I left the cabin a couple days ago, though it has not sent anything. I had tried it in several locations, including next to the Moultrie, where it would not pick up a signal. Definitely not the reception capability of the Moultrie. Link Micro #4 at my city house is working fine, programmed to turn off for the few daily hours of flickering sunlight. Oddly though, it catches me and the dog every time, but the mailman has dropped off several packages without detection. It's like they have some kind of infrared jammer.

I do not have power or wifi at cabin.

I searched long and hard for a camera that will record without internet access since many of the cheap cameras have no computer power and are simply camera + internet and they just use online computing power for motion sensor and such...

The camera I found that did work offline is this one:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GBRV8W5/

It comes with solar panel. My cabin is very shaded so I do not think it gets much charge.

I installed it three weeks ago. I fully charged it before installing it and after about a week it showed 85% charge so we will see how long it lasts before I need to recharge it. I am sure that someone with better direct sun will get better charge than me.

Very good quality video and sound.

I captured a bear cub walking across my cabin which was a shocker since we saw bears once about 8 years ago....

Also, I had this idea of getting a cheap phone and a line with data from a mvno for 24/7 internet access from home but I didn't do it yet mainly because, as I said, my cabin is shaded so keeping that phone/hot spot power via solar will not be easy. Once I have my battery bank set up I will do that

Thanks for posting this. I still don't get the difference between what you have and the Spypoint/Moultrie cell cams. They also record video, though I have only done stills.

Says it does push notifications (text?) and email, does it use cell network for that?

I have one of those Reolink cameras (a bullet version) and it works great. It does require a cellular sim card. I started with T-Mobile $12/month plan. Apparently, just recently, T-Mobile coverage at my cabin took a shit. So I switched over to Mint Mobile, which has been rock solid for the last month. (And it comes out a few bucks cheaper per month w/ more data). It also gives the ability for live viewing, which is nice when you just want to look and see the weather or make sure a tree hasn't fallen on your place

My only complaint is I wish they had a camo version or a camo cover you could place over it...

Yeah, or slide a dark sock over it I guess too. I currently have it mounted up under the eve of my deck. So it doesn't really matter now. But, previously, I had it out on a tree and it kind of stuck out like a sore thumb.

Day before yesterday, about 6pm, I'm up in the cabin and get an alert on my phone. It's a tow truck in my yard, 'bout shit my pants! My old Vette is down there. I rushed down and it was gone. Gate wide open, they had opened it (manual, not locked) and left it open.

I learned that a delivery van had gotten stuck in the driveway next door and called for a tow. So no harm no foul I guess. Little perturbed that a tow truck would enter a closed gate, whirl around and leave it open. Good thing my dog doesn't run away. I know the name of the company, considering contacting them, but pick your battles y'know..

I think that pic would be enough to get me moving as well.

Me? I'd probably call and let them know that happened. Coming through a gate for necessity (I mean was it really?) is one thing but leaving it wide open is not ok.

If you're feeling nice just tell them look I'm not mad but you can't leave a closed gate open...can you talk to the driver?

Don't send them the pic, it will just let them know where the cameras are.

Thanks jhp. This guy is an independent, lives and parks the tow truck on the street in front of the apartment building he lives in. I may just leave a note on it. Or ram a potato up the tail pipe...

I should mention that after all the Spypoint Micro returns I went through, the two I have now have been working flawlessly. Haven't done anything different. I have a feeling they went through some defective units and don't want to admit it.

Well, ya could just put a 'please close the gate' sign on it (even tho ya shouldnt have to) or the 'smile, youre on camera' sign. You know, just the size and location that somebody has to be up to the gate to read.
That assumes the ability to read......
