Anyone well versed in jet pumps? We have lake intake and the system uses a jet pump about 30 feet or so from the lake. The pump gets up to 30psi and then never shuts off. If I unplug it, it doesn't lose pressure. I checked all joints with soap, couldn't find a leak. I hate the stupid things.

How far above the lake level is the pump? Is the jet nozzle mounted to the pump or down in the water (one line or two line system)?

Gauges and pressure switches fail more often than the pump itself.

The impeller is woren can’t pump pressure. Write down the serial number and take it were you bought it and get a repair kit ,not hard to rebuild.

It’s a one line system. Foot valve in the lake.
Will check the pressure switch and tube to the pressure switch next time. The previous owner also built some sort of huge pruning twer setup which could also be part of the problem I think. I will remove all of that and attach the inake directly to the pump.

Your problem is your orifice in the jet is partially plugged, there is a pipe plug below where the line coming from the lake goes into the pump. Remove the plug and run a small wire in thru hole thru orifice and clean out restriction.Wire needs to be long enough to reach from hole to motor, the jet with orifice lays right behind the plug hole. With it building 30 lb. your impeller is not worn out and you are not trying to lift over 25 ft. I have a good friend who is a plumber when I told him about your problem the first words he said was orifice is partially plug ,give this a try I think your problem will be fixed.

I will try that. Next step I am going to by pass all of the priming tower step and attach the intake line directly to the pump. I suppose it's possible there is a problem with the pressure switch or the tube that feeds it... So I will look at those too. After that, Ian having it all replaced so so that I can get to the cottage and push the easy button.

I would guess that the previous owner put the priming tower on there for a reason. He has had the jet plug up before and has had to clean it, the tower just makes it easier to prime. Turn your pump back on let it build up to the 30lbs like before, start backing you pressure switch off, when you get below the 30lb setting your pump should shut off, if it does then the switch and tube are ok. Then go to the foot vale in the lake check the screen for tears or holes in it, if you have to replace screen replace it with as fine a screen as you can find.Jet pumps work really well but they don't like any kind of foreign material that can plug the jet. Clean your jet like I said in previous post, prime system and reset pressure switch. You will probably have to clean the jet on a regular maintenance schedule, just because of the fact that you are using lake water, It could be something as simple as some algae growing on the inside of pipe and it breaks loose and starts to plug the jet, the more it plugs up the lower your pressure will be until it just quiets, then you will have to clean it and start all over. Good Luck

Well no luck. Cleaned out the by the jet plug. Cleaned the tubes to the pressure switch. Checked the foot valued. Couldn't find any noticeable leaks. Pressure switch looked ok. The pump is old and had been repaired some time in the past, looks like it may have even had a weld repair. I think there is a leak contributing but couldn't find it. I put soap on all of the joints but duh, forgot to blow air into the system - a leak sucks air into the the system and won't cause bubbling unless it's a big leak I am guessing. At any rate, when I drained the pump here was soapy water I it.... So it's getting sucked in somewhere. I will be getting it replaced, it seems like it has seen better days - do isn't even have sediment filters on it. Once I get the pump don't I just hope the rest of the plumbing is ok!
