Hello,
I have a little over 10 acres on a mountain ridge in the Boston Mountains of Arkansas. My property is a couple hundred yards outside the Buffalo National river park. I am starting a cabin which will be 32 feet by 28 which is just under 900 square ft. I decided to put a walk out basement under it which will double my usable living space as well as give me the benefits of a cool space in the summer and warm in the winter. It also gives me someplace to go in case of a Tornado. The basement was poured with 10 foot walls. I was happy to find someone to dig the foundation. clear the lot, and install the septic system for 14 thousand dollars. I am waiting for spring to get here so I can start building. I have been picking up a lot for the cabin at Habitat Restore. I am anticipating a very well built cabin that will be totally eco friendly. The cabin will be orieinted with a south facing view which will accomodate passive and active solar features including electricity.

The best thing about having land is the planning of a cabin. I have gone through lots of different ideas but I think have settled on a basement under my cabin. I was thinking 24 by 24 but after drawing and trying to fit everything in I am going to go a little bigger.

I was totally satisfied with my concrete contractor. He is willing to travel to adjacent states to do projects like this. I guess that would be Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee. almost 30 years ago I helped build a cabin on lake of he ozarks for my best friends dad. His advice to us the best value was to build a basement... cheapest part of the house. It can help cool... help heat... extra space for heater, storage, water heater, extra storage, room to sleep, play room. This serves as storm safety area as well. As you can see mine is a walk out which makes it easier to become more than just 4 concrete walls. I am building a second master bedroom in the basement with a bathroom with shower. It is a nice way to double the living space yet still be a basement and not counted as floor space by many localities for code and building requirements.

Greetings Whitewater, I am in the planning stages, have been for a few years. Land outside of Kingston, just minutes away from Ponca and the valley.

Thanks for posting the link to Habitat Restore Rob_O I don't always get online here regularly. Hello travcojim Howdy neighbor. I love the upper end of the Buffalo. Hell I love the entire river. I have spent a lot of time paddling the uppper river and love taking new friends hiking up lost valley to the cave. I can walk about 400 yards down my road and be in the park. One corner of my property is about 200 yards from the park boundary.

I signed with a contractor Tuesday to rough in the exterior, put on the steel roof and the outside windows. I will finish the rest myself. I am so excited. Took some time off from the build to go through a divorce. Now remarried and ready for the cabin
