I'm wondering how much it costs to survey land to locate property borders and corners. Does anyone have direct experience or quotes regarding the cost of surveying land?
How much in US dollars (or CAD?) and when was this quote made?

Thanks!

Here in Wisconsin you can legally hire a line walker if you are looking for property lines to build.
If you are having a land dispute with a neighbor you have to foot the bill for a official survey which can cost more than twice as much.
We hired a line walker 4 years ago for $325, and that included him pounding metal fence stakes every 100 feet around the perimeter of the property.
We had called a couple official surveyors for a estimates and were told the cost would be around $900 with flags.

Wow, when we needed to have our 80 acres surveyed for fencing we got quotes of several thousand dollars. It is remote and rugged so that might have been the reason.

I rented a surveyors GPS and we did it ourselves over a weekend. Cost was $550 for the rental.

In 2007 we had a survey done. We paid $2,500 but that included amalgamating the lots (12,500 sq.ft total). I don't know what the cost would have been to survey only. We didn't have an option to survey it ourselves.

-Ours is a rectangle shaped wooded 10 acre parcel with a small river running lengthwise through the property located on a county gravel road .
The guy we hired lives less than 15 miles from our land.
It took him all of one afternoon.

OK thanks for the replies. We are trying to establish lot lines on a 1 1/4 acre lot in the city, mostly level, but lots of bushes. Lowest quote is $2900, they go upward into $5,000+.

My gut feel is this is an 8-12 man-hour job, but I could be wrong.

When I purchased my property the land owner would not come down at all on the price. I said I was willing to pay the full price but I insisted that I had the land surveyed and marked so that I would be DAMN sure to know where the boundaries were. I do not know the price, but am sure that as rugged as the property is that I got the best end of the deal

we paid $350 cash for our survey.. it was a 5 acre section.. he marked 6 points on the lot, out lot is approx 225' x 1230'.. and most of it was through marshy wetlands.. he came out twice too, once he put in wood stakes, cuz he ran out of Iron Rods.. so the second time out, I was there, so he took me out to show me everything..

he flagged a few other areas that are along the line too.. I had 0 experience up to this point, so I figured I was getting a good deal.. he was recommended by the seller, who was a real estate agent, so he knows everyone.. he set me up with the driveway install as well...
