Behind the Cubic Mini Grizzly wood stove are the tiles I made in clay class. They have imprints of local plants and our names stamped into them. Also a tile for Owen Christensen, the builder who built the shell.

Bed nook and fold down table. My mother helped me spray paint this vinyl window to match the other walnut stained windows. She says anything can be spray painted and I guess she's right.

Picture of the bed nook with the "bathroom" to the left. Bed nook has drapes you can draw closed to make it cozy. Bathroom has a little window and a bucket toilet.

Beautiful cabin. This is very close to what I had in mind for a build next spring and I had already come across Owen's posts about building on skids. I'm curious about the roof and cathedral ceiling. Did you use trusses? Insulation on "top" of the roof? Any more construction details would be great. Thanks,

Yes, they are trusses, no ridgeboard. This bunkie is made all of 2x4 construction in the roof. Owen builds cabins with 2x6 for the roofs but this building is just a 3 season bunkie, so not needing as much insulation, so I just went with 2x4, his standard "shed" construction rather than "cabin" construction. Half of the building has a loft, so that adds increased strength to the building (triangles.) We chose to have this building spray foamed everywhere (except the floor which is Owen's standard sheet foam sandwich construction.) In our main cabin (16 x 24) we just had the ceiling spray foamed, and we did the walls in fiberglass rolls. I wish I had spray foamed the whole darn thing because it prevents cluster flies, but spray foam is expensive for sure. To finish the inside, my family and I put up tongue and groove. I do like the look of exposed rafters, though, so like the idea of sheet insulation on the outside of a building. I am building an even smaller (6x10) 1 person bunkie/sauna now and am leaving the 2x4 studs exposed everywhere and using 6 inch tongue and groove for the walls instead of sheet goods. Then i'm going to insulate the outside of the building with sheet foam insulation (not sure of what brand yet.)

Do you know if there is a post (or a website, or a Youtube video) that lays out Owen's recommendations / build practices in one place, start to finish? All of his posts I've read make a lot of sense to me for what I want to do and I am in a similar harsh winter environment.

He doesn't have any Youtube videos that I know of, or any sort of "how-to" website. He doesn't build sheds or cabins anymore either because he is about 70 now and claims he is "too old" for outside work (he is the youngest 70-something I know though!). But he still has a thriving business building saunas. He has a big heated building he builds them in and then delivers them to wherever (as far as New York State and Yellowstone, though mostly in MN and Wisc.) His team consists of himself, a couple of his daughters and a grandson, if I remember right. He does answer if you call him (or leave a message.) I'm not sure he would want to spend hours on the phone with you, but if you had a specific question, he is pretty generous with advice.
