My cabin driveway is 600' of dust right now. So I'm going to attempt a road sprayer. My plan is a 55 gallon drum in the truck bed, on it's side, with 2" pvc going to a T valve, with pipes going sideways as wide as the truck, capped with holes drilled every so often. Fill the drum with water, open the valve and go. Sound good? If so what size holes and how often?

A summer long cure is to apply a fifty lb. bag of calcium on every 150 ft of two track , works all summer.

We have to continuously wet down haul roads at the mine I work at. We found out (through trial and error) that the best way to put down water for dust control is not a bunch of holes in the pipe, but a fan spray. You can make it yourself easy.
Make your pipe running off the tank just about 2/3 as wide as your truck. at the ends, put a small stub pipe UP. at the top of those stubs, put on a pipe cap that you make a homemade fan nozzle out of.
To make the fan nozzle, just take a pipe cap and act like you are trying to saw the head off of it. Stop about half-way. That will give you a 180 degree fan spray. If you want a narrower pattern, don't saw so deep. The amount of water put out depends on the size of the slot. Use a thin hacksaw blade for less water, a fatter hand saw for more water. You might have to make up 2 or 3 sets till you find one right for you, but they are cheap enough. I recommend using a cheap pump (like out of an RV), but lacking that, get the distance between your tank (high) and the nozzles (low) as far apart as you can for better spray action.
The multiple-hole-in-the-pipe way seems to not wet things as well as a fan spray, and also kicks up a sizeable amount of dust as well.

You ever heard of Soil Cement? They used a similar method to make the runways in the Pacific islands during WW2...

Great ideas, thanks guys. Questions:
Where do you get calcium chloride? Expensive?
Thanks for the sprayer ideas, I have a 12v pump.
Soil cement, didn't know about it but 3-4lbs per sq ft? Sounds lik a lot.

I went ahead and finished my watering system, using Cowracer's (you race cows?) nozzle idea. Tried it today, works pretty well just under gravity. I need to play around with nozzle size and speed a bit but it's kinda fun. Easy work for a change.
