Thinking of starting up a blogsite to chronicle my build......for posterity, for my boys when they get older, to show friends, etc.....

Anyone got a suggestion for a good host site? Preferably free, but I could be convinced to pay if it was worthwhile.....

Free? IMO, if you want to have a website, a blog, whatever, you should expect to pay for it, or not mind when they disappear, or have outages, or start to charge or have a crash and maybe don't even say "sorry" when your data is lost, etc. Also simply paying for a site or service does not guarantee a smooth trouble-free operation. There may be no technical service at all with a low-cost service, definitely no help, or very limited service with a free account. There is often a direct relationship between cost and reliability and the level of service.

I have had both a personal and a business website for over 20 years with the same ISP. I got lucky when I bought my first host service. I've stayed with them because I have had no reason to move. Not free; I now spend about $400 a year for web host service that is dead on reliable. They have plans that cost less; less monthly bandwidth, less storage space, less than $90 a year, but the same friendly and knowledgeable people.

I have my business website with Go Daddy and pay a lot for it, I kinda thought a personal blogsite would be 'free-ish', there are a lot of 'em advertised
out there, too confusing to pick one. I thought maybe someone might've used one....

I have a couple sites up through Lunarpages.
It costs money but they are super helpful. Looks like they have plans for under 5$ a month.

DOing a blog? Look at wordpress. They used to have free options.

I use wordpress to build both a blog and a couple of biz sites. I pay 70 a year for hosting and 20/yr renewing various names.

Well, if your music playlist also can go from the second movement of Mozart's Concerto for Flute and Harp, to "The Humpty Dance" by digital underground, then I might be a tad concerned. ..

I started my blog as basically a way to keep my pictures, but with a bit more narrative than Picasa or Webshots allowed.

There are some GREAT tutorials on how to make it look good, and its really not that hard. Good luck and let us know when you get something going online.
