I keep a tote box by the door, both at home and the cabin. It's the last thing that gets loaded in the truck (after the usual plethora of crap that always needs to one way or the other). In it are the coffee thermos, the wifi modem thingy, duct tape, volt meter, knife, bailing wire, screwdriver, vice grips, ibuprofen, lighter, computer tablet, pens, tape measure and small fire extinguisher. I have most of this stuff dupliceted at both places, don't know why I keep hauling it back and forth.

Better to have it and not need it. Than to need it and not have it.
Makes perfect sense to me. I would add a first aid kit and maybe a $20 prepaid tracfone.

Yes ! Food and water...dogs leashes...first aid kit...pocket knife..flashlight...cash in case atms dont work for some reason .. I need to add a fire extinguisher!
Im already having cabin withdrawls.
I have a spring wish list a mile long .

I have a box for every place we go: camp, grandkids, FL for the winter.
It's to the point that memory and lists don't suffice. Throw it in the box when you think of it.
Just remember the box when you walk out the door.

I use a knapsack, think BOB/GHB....
Jerky, waters, first aid, rope, knives, compass, etc....both the truck and Jeep already have fire extinguishers and tools. I add a 9mm when headed out to the cabin.....
Good idea to be prepared!

I already carry many of the items mentioned above all the time in my truck.
I have two first aid kits in my truck, one is a small hiking kit that is in a fanny pack along with a knife, tolit paper, wet wipes, bug juice and sunscreen. I have a small saw under my seat in a plastic case. I carry two fluorescent vests just in case we have a breakdown. I have tire pressure monitors on my tires so I carry a 12 volt pump to keep the correct tire pressure, two hat bug nets, two large brim hats, a blanket, a few towels, two flashlights, one is a hand crank just in case the batteries die in the other one, paper towels, window cleaner, water, food, a small amount of change and money, a truck stop guide, atlas, a next exit guide.
The second first aid kit I carry is in my center console on the top. I have a lot of stuff in there one of the most important things is a pad that stops bleeding along with the sticky gauze to keep it on. I also have some granular stuff that can be sprinkled into a wound to stop bleeding.
When I was driving a truck I bought two of these pocket holders that you attach onto the back of your seat. Most truck drivers use them. One can get a lot of stuff in them. I purchased mine at a Pilot truck stop. They are made out of sturdy blue jean material. I tried to find them like Online today. I could not find the blue jean material. But I did find this one on Amazon for $16.99. I'm not sure it would be as sturdy. It does have the same pocket configuration.
Forgot to add, carry a container with a lid. If you get caught on the interstate after a bad accident has occurred you may be sitting on a closed road for hours. You will need a place to relieve yourself. You can use one of the towels to give yourself some privacy.
One thing I've thought about adding are bolt cutters. That was a tool we carried in the semi. Sometimes we had to cut locks off loads.
If you are stranded on the freeway in the city and need to get out of there due to a emergency you can't because the freeway is fenced. With bolt cutters you would be able to cut a hole in the fence to get out.
My SIL along with a bunch of people got rescued by a guy that carried bolt cutters in his truck. There was a torrential rain storm in our area and the freeway flooded. People had to abandon their cars to get out of the floods way. The water was rising quickly and the entire area was fenced but here was this guy with bolt cutters saving people. Pretty amazing.

I like the bolt cutter idea, you can get a small pair pretty cheap at Harbor Freight....that's all you'd need to cut a fence or even a small lock.....also make a good window smasher or even weapon if desperate....

I carried a metal pipe next to my seat while I was a driver. It looked like the end of a rifle. I never had to use it.

I have a tote I load up at home with whatever I put on my list the last time I was at the cottage, but anything that I've hauled back and forth more than a couple of times just gets duplicated and I have one in each spot. I do too much lugging of stuff already, to carry extra stuff back and forth.
