80 acres, two small sheds so far. A creek runs through it with a mostly year round spring. Lots of fence built and to build. I posted previously but we have a second place and some fence to share.

I have some light oak, Tarkett snap lock flooring, just waiting on the mudding to get done before I lay it down. Finished the ceiling a couple of weeks ago with the thin t&g from menards

Just joined so thanks for having me! Bought a little place in Central Virginia near Charlottesville early this year. It needs some work but it has electric and a well with indoor plumbing. Of course the plumbing leaks and that is some of what has to be done. I intend for this to be a retirement home for my wife and I and I'll have about 10-12 years to whip it into shape! Oh it is only 2.25 acres but all we'll really want is a garden although that will take some doing!

Just a little bit further South! Isn't that near the NC border? At least you have that stream to cool off with in the summer! Good luck with it, I always thought I would build a log cabin, but I got my modified A frame already built. Of course it is going to take a lot of renovation work to get it how I want, but it will be worth it!

We are in the corner of the state near NC and TN. Building the cabin with hewn logs cut from our property has been interesting to say the least. It would have been faster to stick build but it has always been a dream to build a cabin as close as possible to the way cabins were built in these mountains for hundreds of years.
You have a great looking place to retire to in the future. Good luck and congratulations on your slice of heaven!

Oh absolutely a hand built log cabin is "The Dream" for sure. I also looked into timber framing fairly extensively as well, but really that is much more intensive and time-consuming as opposed to a traditional log cabin. Either one is "stronger" relatively, than stick built. I have 11 years or so until retirement, so hopefully enough time to do some renovation and probably an addition before that, as well as all the other general work that needs to be done. Also I want to extend the loft out and have 2 small bedrooms up there that are actually practical.
The place was actually a repo and the idiot real estate agent that had it listed didn't have it winterized over last winter, so the pipes are shot and have to be redone. Also it was musty so they left 2 windows open, one under the porch, but the other was not under cover and leaked badly. That area, including the paneling and sub-floor will have to be replaced. So I will have some serious sweat-equity into it when all is said and done. Very satisfying to finally have a place to do some work on myself, and it is paid for which is worth it's weight in gold. I would love it if you will keep us up to date on your progress!
