Any thoughts for building a small off grid cabin for under 10k? It would be a personal building project = no labor costs. The build would need to be relatively quick, definitely within a month time-frame. It would be full time work, not just weekends. I've researched extensively and here are my current ideas.

Think Huntsville AL, weather. It will probably be a dry cabin in the beginning with minimal battery power hookups.

Check out my thread-"It Begins". My Dad and I built a 16x20 cabin with 8x16 porch in 17 days. Cost me about $3600. It was all just material cost. That was siting on piers, Framed up, sided, roofed and weather tight. Located in NH. Built in July.

What size and type are we talking about? Uninsulated? Solar? Generator? No power?
You can buy one hell of a shed/shell for $8k and have $2k left for windows, doors and insulation. You could be done in a week minus site prep.
Theres a local shed builder near our property that makes buildings from real 2x4s and real board and batten siding. For the price it dosnt make sence for me to build a 10x14 shed. I would be saving roughly $500-700. Il save that money else where after i have a hard side building to stay in.

I'm looking for at least 300 sq ft cabin, concrete pier foundation. Cabin is for full time use and definitely insulated. Generator + Battery bank for power. I need to install a water catchment system, get a wood stove, set up a privy and manual shower. Countertops and cabinets will come from restore.
Ultimately I'm looking for the most sq footage for the least cost so that I can afford basic accessories. I've looked at sheds, but by the time you insulate, put in a floor, and pay for decent windows and doors, there's nothing left.

Here in canada I'm pricing out for a 20x28 for an enclosed structure im looking at atleast 10k canadian and I work at the lumber store with a discount haha! That does not include insulation or any interior finishing.
Go check lumber yards and truss manufacturers for culled wood or weathered wood that's still straight and structurally good at a discounted price.

I'm thinking about maybe a 20 x 18 cabin with a skillion / lean-to roof. The dimensions would give me a bit more square footage than a shipping container, easy water catching abilities, and plenty of space for potential solar. I will have to run some numbers...
