A bit off topic, but I know there are daily lithium battery conversations happening in the forum so I thought this might be of interest.

Tesla and Maxwell Technologies (Youtube)

It's short and touches on some interesting points. At 3:00 Elon Musk mentions that new Tesla battery packs, potentially going into production next year, could be good for a million miles.

Anyhow, I thought it was interesting and guessed that some of you might enjoy it.

Interesting but it won't be the first time Musk has said something and then nothing happens, it happens slower or something less.....

That said I do like my Tesla 3

I know. Unobtanium. I have some lovely Panasonic modules from another car company that starts with T.

I hope he's right tho.

ICC. Any colour as long as its black? We went for the snazzy rims. Otherwise it was bog standard.

Midnight Silver Metallic (dark charcoalish); almost black with some 20" multi spoke TSW gunmetal aftermarket wheels (sort of a dark charcoal, matte, with silver polished rim lip). The black interior of course.

One of my close friends salavged a model S for the batteries.

ICC. Nice. I can't wait to get the bigger packs. These little 20kw packs. Pah.

How'd he manage the BMS. I understand the panasonic bms is readable. useable. that's a big bonus.

and zut alors. those wheel choices are crazy. gonna start saving my pesos. We need winter rims. smile. and a tow bar. and a 60 amp breaker in the box.

creeky, he bought some parts off some online site that has a bunch of stuff to use with using Tesla battery modules for off grid or custom EV uses. Even fire extinguishers for lithium battery fires. I can find the website and pass it along if you want. It is not low budget by any means.

I have some panasonic 4.4kwh units I'm repurposing for solar energy storage. Just interested in how he worked out the BMS.

I'm about 3/4 of the way there. I'd be done, but the spring sales have been crazy. I'm shipping systems by the tonne this year. After saying I would slow the business down. Haven't had time to get to the BMS/CAN bus work.

Low budget is not what anyone full time off grid wants. We want reliable, solid, dependable.

Thx. They've got some nice stuff and pretty good prices.

Most of it I have already. Usually at a better price. My new BlueBIRD BMS, is better/cheaper. I also prefer the LG Chem pouch cells. Really unbeatable on lifespan. The panasonics tho. That BMS looks good.

I'll keep an eye on that CAN bus sniffer they've got. That's pretty neat. And they're doing a really really nice job. Well done. So great to see the market maturing.

WOW just looked at that site posted by ICC and perused some of their stuff... Some good stuff but a wee bit pricey for some things.

Fairly hefty Markup on the Sigineer Inverters.... Sigineer is a OEM/VAR from China, they even have Stackable Inverters and more, was one I was considering except for the lack of MODBUS / Network interface. They can be bought direct too: https://www.sigineer.com/

BTW: On Topic, The Tesla purchase of Maxwell was not only driven by their need to increase in-house battery production BUT Maxwell is also a leading developer in Super-Capacitor technology which is being applied to the Super Charger networks, power storage & transmission along with several other civilian, military & aerospace applications. One has to remember that Tesla - SpaceX and others all "share" as they are "family" such as it is.

I am hoping Tesla comes out with some plug and play Lithium battery/solar products like Goal Zero.

Those type of things would be really helpful for a lot of applications. Here's to the price of batteries dropping..... but it will be a long time before the demand for packs in cars and grid scale energy projects dwindles....
