So I've just received my kit from Jamaica Cottage shop, I'm building a 10x16 cabin to survive the harsh winter in the north east border of Vermont.
I've looked through the instructions thoroughly and looked over the package of building materials. However there is still a lot of questions, I've upgraded to the 3 season pack which comes with some additional items their standard kit dose not include like vapor/moisture barrier and floor insulation. Unfortunately the instructions they give me don't even mention these components and I want to make sure I do everything right.
The floor is 2x6's 16" OC (I upgraded from 24" OC) however they still gave me floor insulation for 24" OC?
I will be laying down the skids on top of cinderblocks on my gravel foundation today, and I want to start the flooring. After the floor frame is built 3/4" plywood will be the finished floor. I'd assume I tac the insulation below the plywood, to the joists? Where does the vapor or moisture barrier go? is it okay for the underside of the floor to be exposed of do I need to cover that? Also it appears they gave me 2 different types of plastic membrane, one is a large roll of light blue color, I'm assuming that wraps the whole house? the other is a much smaller, folded roll that is black, I'm thinking that's for the floor?
Needless to say none of these parts are mentioned in the plans as the plans are for there standard package. I feel pretty ripped off, I payed double the price for the 3 season pack thinking it would save me a lot of headache, but It looks like it's more of a headache now. I wouldn't recommend JCS to anyone at this point.

You should call them. 24in insulation with 16in studs is a no go.
If your insulation has a paper covering on one side that goes towards the interior of the building. You can use non faced (no paper covering) and put plastic under your 3/4sub floor. Either way you really need to cover the bottm (outside) of any insulation with plywood or somethingting to keep bugs and animals out. If this floor is only 8in off the ground you really need to do it right the first time because thers no room to do it again.
I cant believe that they would sell a kit like this and not have good instructions or even a video to see how to do things. I have seen there buildings and yes they are beautiful but very costly. I perfer not to build with a kit ever. Modifications will almost always need to me made and thats half the point of a kit, not needing to modify anything.
Post pics of the two plastic membranes.

I will have to send pictures later as I'm not at the property right now. If I put the face of the insulation toward the flooring, then a barrier under it, that would probably trap moisture right?
I will call the company later but so far they've not been able to answer many of my questions. I'll try to call a local carpenter maybe and get a 2nd opinion.

I'm building a kit of theirs (it's actually fully built aside from an add-on porch) and they were generally pretty good at responding to design/build questions. Definitely give them a call.
On the 3 season package, I talked to them at length about what that option would include, and it seemed to me that they were charging a small fortune for poly sheeting and a bit of insulation so I didn't bother with it. Sounds like I made the right call.

You made the right call. I payed around $2,000 for a poly sheet, some roof sheeting and 4 rolls of cheap insulation. Before I bought the kit I asked about what all the 3 season pack came with and they pretty much just read off the website some vague statement.
Anyways I called them today and explained my problem. They said they don't make an instruction kit for the 3 season package for the 10x16 "Bunk House".
She is sending me another set of plans for a different building that is a 3 season pack so I can figure out how to do the vapor barrier and all.
Also I asked about the blocking in between the floor joist, they were all cut to around 22" and I payed to upgrade the floor to 16" On Center. She said I just have to do the math myself and when you upgrade you got to do the extra steps yourself. Funny thing is they didn't even give me enough blocking, it would be enough for the normal kit but obviously 16" has a few more joist running across the floor, fortunately they gave me enough joists. well almost enough, they forgot 1. I had to send my dad to the lumbar yard today while building the floor to pick up another board to finish the floor frame.
Once the frame was done we stapled the vapor barrier to the top, and then put the 3/8 plywood to cover the whole deck. This will be the bottom of the deck, we will flip it over tomorrow and insulate it (also the insulation will have to be cut since its 24")
Before we flip it we'll finish loading the plywood with nails, and I was thinking of caulking in between the plywood since there are some small gaps, just to keep it sealed.
Anyways progress will be made but so far I would not recommend JCS to anyone. I mean forgetting to give me a floor joice, not giving me enough blocking, not having plans for the 3 season kit and I'm just starting. Hopefully this is just a little bump in the road and the rest is smooth sailing.
@Mojo since you're building one of their kits do you mind telling me what you have in mind for the floor insulation, walls and roofing? Thanks.

Whats there return policy?
I would make sure you take alot of pictures of your issues and leave them a bad review on FB, google and every other form possible.
How can they sell a kit with an upgrade and not have the right parts muchless no instructions.
I bet a $20 shed plan is looking more and more like a deal now? Good thing is when your finaly done with this you more than likely will not need plans for a small building like this.
