This is a popular thread on my old car forum, maybe it would work here. Mostly on topic but not always. Good for stuff that doesn't warrant a thread.

I just rigged this up. I have gone through a few of these auto light propane torches that quit lighting. They're about $25. Hate to throw them out so I bought a couple of universal piezo gizmos online for a few bucks. Works great.

Dog sledding outside Whitehorse in the Yukon. Fun! Back to AZ tomorrow after a week up in the frozen north. In a couple of weeks we will head up to the cabin in the High Rockies of South Central Colorado for a week or two!

I went for a cross country ski in the morning. Pulled the wheels and hubs off the 30 foot gooseneck trailer to check the bearings and brakes in the afternoon. I thought it might be time for a brake job and I was right. I'll see about getting the parts tomorrow.

Worked on my scraps from the sawmill deer blind some more. I will have less that 250 into it when done.

Worked on antique radio, clean sine wave should be showing on scope, but is distorted...

Radio is circa 1952 Hallicrafters S76 receiver for AM and shortwave.

Planed some lumber in the shop, getting ready to build more bee hive boxes. Planed a cherry plank with live edge . going to make , serving or cutting boards, will donate them to local hospital . Money raised used for supplies for long term patients. Just completed 10 bird houses for them as well. Always a project. Sap starting to run here too. old243

Last week I put up a rack behind the bomb shelter, out of leftover timbers, to store my leftover timbers. They've been laying around the yard for a few years. Today I got most of it in the rack.

I should be working on prepping materials for all of my spring/summer cabin projects (doors, interior paneling, stone work, etc. etc.). But instead I was playing around with a scroll saw that I just inherited. I made a bass out of walnut for my cabin decor.

Wow that's nice.

Went to start my Stihl concrete saw the other day, rope broke, sigh. Oh well, didn't feel like working on that project anyway.

Last year, or before, I broke a rope on my generator in the middle of a work day. Didn't have any new rope...and there it was, tied to the front of the cabin, the dog's lanyard, from Dollar General. Steel inside, plastic coating, same diameter or less than the rope. Ties into a knot at the ends. Worked like a champ. Since then I have put 2 or 3 of these on pull starts, and just did the Stihl. No more broken ropes.

Loaded up and headed to the cabin for a week or two.... got a late start so motelling it in Albuquerque tonight. We hear the snow is going off fast... gotta move the snowmobile up to the property. Wierd winter, never more than about 3' of snow on the ground. The good thing is we will be able to backpack into the backcountry sooner.

Went out to Mrs. C's. Looked at her amazing barn. Totally cleaned up but still working. From 1880 or so. Also checked out her home. Old 1880 farmhouse with modern addition.
Yup. Looking to put solar on the barn and the garage. Hoping if we split in two we can get 10kwh up.
Great great day.

Pumping spring water to the loft tank and melting snow for toilet flushing. Don't want to make too many more snowmobile runs up and down the road to the pickup, snow is big time melting off! Still way to much in spots to drive up but a couple bare stretches of about 20' and a half a dozen spots 5' - 10' of bare rocky ground. I cringe hearing the skags scraping across rocks....

I’m think that even if I don’t fully commit to turning the water on and filling my system I can safely use the kitchen sink with spring water and just drop some antifreeze down the trap before we close up...
At least we could wash dishes etc...

I completed hauling everything into the property for upcoming build. My 2003 Skandic 500f SWT got a workout, along with my large Otter sled. Hauled all the lumber, plywood (77 sheets- roofing, flooring & sheathing), sheet metal and power poles for foundation piers. No road, just snowmobile and ATV trail.

Bucked some logs. My Stihl would barely run, been a month or two. I hadn't drained the gas last time, figuring I'd need it again soon. Drained and put in fresh gas. Didn't help. Tried it with the gas cap off, ran great. Turns out it has a vent hose with a little screw inside it. Air is supposed to get by the threads but not fuel. Well mine was plugged, either some coagulated gas or the the tube shrunk enough to choke it off. I just ran it without the tube, will clean the screw and try it in some new hose.

Found this while digging through my 'stuff that rotates on a motor' box. Looks scary. One of those better mousetrap ideas I suppose.
