This isn't from today, some years ago rather, but I came across it today on an old cell phone.

This tree we cut got caught on another tree. Had to go in that direction. So while I'm heading to get the tractor my pal Joe decided the thing to do was tie a rope and pull on it. My other pal Eric took the video. Pretty grainy but when I saw Joe scamper I busted a gut, still do.

We got further along on the greenhouse and got the low volume water system installed in the cold frames. Planter boxes in the greenhouse ready for soil... have a little but need more. Will add lathe to the greenhouse tomorrow and will be ready for plastic and soil.... gotta go to town to get those. The plastic is supposed to arrive Wednesday or Thursday. There is a place in town we can get composted topsoil, really good stuff... hay and manure from a mushroom farm mixed with regular soil, sand, vermiculite and other humus. $19.00/ yard, and full yards for sure!

Sure does, and I'll be damned if I can figure out how to change it.

Doing spring cleaning. This dingus came with a box of cables I got with the radio transmitter. XR2206 Function Generator! Whatever that is. What is it? The instructions might as well be in Swahili to me. Anyone wants it I'll post it to you. I've got all the function I can generate already.

Second, I've had this tank kicking around. Water pressure tank? Looks to be 50-100 gallon. I don't have a use for it. Probably pretty old. Is it worth playing with, worth anything? You can have it too, but you have to come get it.

From the Google.. "...In principle, the XR-2206 chip itself is a monolithic function generator integrated circuit capable of producing high quality sine, square, triangle, ramp, and pulse waveforms of high-stability and accuracy. The output waveforms can be both amplitude and frequency modulated by an external voltage."

Yeah... why?

I see a fire ring.... smoker.... shop stove... endless uses for an old steel tank!

Thanks Nob. Yeah I read that too, that's when I gave up. The only wave forms I generate are when someone cuts me off.

Good ideas on the tank. Originally I though air tank but it's probably too old for high pressure and it likely has a bladder or what not inside.

I would like to add the panel on the left to the Harbor Freight kit that charges my tractor batteries. It measures 44v ac 20dc, the HF 40/19. If I point it in the opposite direction it would work, right? It's 100watts, the Hf kit is 140 total.

Actually finished up yesterday.... the greenhouse is completed, planted and drip irrigation installed. Today we work on cleaning out the gunk in the 300 gallon tote we got from an organic farmer. Some kind of nutrient fixer, helps the nutrients remain available to the plants.... all I know is the left over gunk is, well gunky!

We get that cleaned up then the greenhouse and cold frames will be on that water tank and off the cabin water system. Eventually rain water and grey water for the gardens... otherwise we have to haul water.

Excellent Nobad.

I've been giving my tractors a workout, which means I get one too since I'm on and off every 5 minutes. I'm excavating in front of my new carhop (carport/shop) with the dozer so I can get some road base down. Then dug a trench and buried 20' of culvert pipe with the backhoe and moved a bunch of rocks to the rock pile. Then got on Old Rod Knock, with the box scraper, and cleaned the yard up.

I put together this live edge oak coffee table.
Needs a couple more coats of poly. And " antique"
ie. beat the crap/ distress the legs more. And put the plugs in for the pocket screws.

darz .... Nice table!

Paulz.... man what I wouldn't give to have a backhoe! Everything we level out here - and our place is all hillside - is being done by hand I do admit to doing some trading for labor, solar panels for 2 days of hand digging to level out the 12x14 pad the greenhouse sits on.

I think excavators have pretty much taken over for backhoes. More maneuverable. I still see them around but not as much.

A guy bought 400' of my pvc pipe yesterday. I'm down from 5k feet to 500, which I think I'll keep around.

Yeah excavators have a place but if you want to dig AND really move dirt, etc around it’s hard to beat a backhoe.

Service day. Changed oil/filters on the pickup. Then did the 400 hour oil change on the HF Predator inverter/generator. Cleaned the plug and the air filter. That thing still runs like a champ! Pretty impressed being it is from HF!

I did have to do a little welding to repair the ears that hold the spark arrestor to the muffler. My own fault. When I moved the generator to it's new shack I attached a piece of 1" EMT directly to the spark arrestor and out of the building. Well.... with no play in it and the EMT clamped down to the building, the 2 ears broke off. This time I flared the end of the EMT coupler and have it loosely over the spark arrestor. Most of the exhaust will go out the pipe and the spark arrestor should stay attached to the muffler now.

Thought about you today noby, while hand excavating a new spot for my black water tank. No way to get a machine up there. Pick, shovel, rake, pick, shovel rake...almost done. It's sure to settle so I need to build up the downhill side.

The tank is located in what is now my shop, and almost full. This will give me another 100 sf inside, and a nicer aroma.

Yeah you want that tank sitting on solid ground... not the spoils! It would "spoil" your day if that tips over!

Well that put the fear in me..so, I drug my tamper up there, got if compacted good. Trying to decide to put the tank (poly) right on dirt, or put some sacrificial plywood under to keep rocks from poking it, or I could use pavers.

Dressed up a new wooden screen door yesterday, foxes for the fox that eats out of my wife's hands!

Working on the back screen door today. Hung the door already so my wife is tracing the cutouts on wood for this door. This one will have a moma bear and two Cubs heading for the trees. I'll post a pic when it is done.

Here are the bears!

Very nice.

Yesterday I built the remaining 3 8x8 doors for my shop, got two of them hung. Hope to do the rest today but we have a heat wave going. Cooler tomorrow. Friday the pumper guy is coming to empty my black water tank, then I have to move it up to the new pad and do the PVC hookup before my wife takes a pee every 15 minutes.

Saturday is free green waste dumping at the compost yard two miles away. Been loading the dump truck with branches and scrub. I usually get in 3-4 loads before I pass out.

Be glad when Sunday rolls around..

The concrete back wall of my new shop is built into the side of a hill. The bottom 4' are just hillside, sloped out another 4'. Wasted space. Yesterday I anchored a ledger into the wall and framed a 4'x16' shelf/bench over it with leftover lumber, flopped on two full sheets of 5/8 plywood. Looking forward to getting my miter saw, drill press, sander etc. off the floor. Dark photo, no real lighting yet.

Man I can't spit lately without someone giving me something. My latest was Monday when I went by the spa dealer to get a free pallet. They lady says "You want some 2x12s? Used once for concrete forms". Do I need any 2x12? Not at the moment. Will I take free 2x12? You bet. Drove over to her house. Sheesh, must be 500 bf. Now I have to build something..

Nobadays - that greenhouse looks excellent!! Great work! We have a greenhouse as well and learned that if you can put in a fan (nothing big, just a regular fan) it will help a lot. It tumbles the air. We did that this year and our greenhouse veggies are growing like crazy.

What'd I do today? I made a grouse pot pie for dinner tonight. Getting low on grouse in the freezer so hopefully Bob will have a successful hunting season come fall.

Thanks Hattie! Yeah it was getting pretty hot in there as the temps got into the 70's ( haven't had any 80's yet this year). We put 1/2" rabbit wire on the bottom half of the door and that helped.... a few weeks ago we cut 4 new 6"x18" vents at bed level... that really helped a lot! The tomatoes had been wilting in the afternoon but now going strong.

Unfortunately the topsoil we bought has way more clay in it than we thought. It holds water horribly, doesn't drain well so it's been a learning curve to figure out how much water is too much/too little. We will work more mulch into the soil this fall... and Aspen leaves of which we have plenty!

Here are pictures from this morning

Looks really great in the greenhouse Nobadays! Congrats on a job well done! You will get a lot of produce out of that. We use straight compost in our beds now. I have two composters out back. One is last year's (so we will screen it and add to the gardens in the fall) and the other is this year's that I add to daily with coffee grounds, tea leaves, veg scraps, egg shells, etc. It makes the most amazing soil to grow vegetables in!

This morning my wife says,"can we go to the cabin today?"
It is still winter here in Sc WI but we are in a warming trend, in fact it seems like the old 'Jan Thaw' that we didnt get, but now is Good.
The 14ish" of remaining snow has been melting down.
Now Ive been to the cabin a few times alone and last Sat snowshoed in on a fresh snow; and I Needed those snowshoes! So I wondered if her walking in with a dodgy knee was gonna be a good thing.....decided to give it a go.
We got there about 1:30, the snowplow berm was still deep but we had enough room to park across the driveway entry, buck the berm and walk in the 340ish feet with just boots.
42*f on the outside wall, 43* inside.
Fired up both lp wall heaters (40K'ish btu's between them) and had it up to 62* in an hour, 72* in 1.5. Cozy!
We had a nice afternoon, talked about the spring plans and improvements. It was a treat to both be there again, especially for Feb 26. If this melt-down trend continues we just might get an early spring and be able to drive in
