Matt Gurney on COVID-19: Why do some Ontarians still have access to their cottages, while others do not? | National Post

“ City dwellers are being asked to exercise good discretion should they travel, and to bring their supplies with them, so as not to buy out all the stock at grocery stores at the long end of logistics lines that have been disrupted all over the province. Yes, the provincial government, and many rural residents, would prefer that the city folk simply stay at home. But it’s not mandatory.”

Keep away from the cottage amid COVID-19: Manitoba public health officials, rural politician - Winnipeg | Globalnews.ca

“ “Staying home, for the most part, includes not travelling to the cottage or second residence, travelling to these places only if it’s required,” Dr. Brent Roussin said. “If you must travel, then only travel with your immediate family members, do not visit others upon arrival, do not stop for gas or other supplies on the way, and only visit local health care providers if absolutely necessary.”

The issue will doubtless get more to a head as we approach what more cottagers consider suitable cottaging weather.

In the meanwhile, we continue to respect our cabin's neigbouring communities' strongly worded and eminently reasonably plea for seasonal residents to not come visit, while also enjoying our land and cabin, which we are able to do with no interaction at all with anyone from the local community.

It does occasionally slightly affect our activity. We forgot the bread yesterday. Normally, we'd stop in a store half-way in our 90 min drive, but we just did without. And I'm not scouring the area for used equipment and building supplies, or getting that load of gravel delivered. That's A-OK, immaterial in the scheme of things.

And we count our blessings that we live and have our cabin in a jurisdiction (Ontario) that provides strong guidance on personal travel, regulates activity in public spaces quite stridently, but does not actually restrict movement. The situation is different elsewhere. (I'm not trying to argue what approach is right here; everyone's doing their best.)

Went to my cottage. Never saw another person from the time I left my permanent residence. Took all we needed and stayed put at my remote place. Nobody even knew I was there and never felt safer. Obviously that can’t happen everywhere. But it can be done in many areas safely and I was glad to check on the place and see the thieves didn’t take advantage of being told no one will be at their cottages

Well I'm scheduled for the Pfizer vaccine tomorrow, being an active EMR. That came around quick, wasn't expecting it so soon. Anyone else?

I'm a mid-50's white guy that works at a desk for an engineering firm. It's going to be a while for my turn.

Some are getting the Moderna shot here already, hopefully they can really start ramping up.

Day 3 of the emergency worker vaccine was cancelled, turns out many are choosing not to get the vaccine for whatever reason.
