There seems to be a familiar theme with atvs. They can make work easier and are fun toys also. For some like me at our cabin a necessity. But they are machines.
Last fall my daughter n me chartered a bush plane to get to the lake we land on thats still 2 miles to the cabin. Walk across muskeg to cabin. Get the quad out to get the rest of the freight to the cabin. Well gasoline being what it is . Machine dies fiddy feet from the cabin. At least not a mile away. The result was an 8 mile walk across the muskeg. We had to hike to lake to get perishables n back . The bears would have had fun though. My wonderful daughter tore the carburetor out n tore it down n cleaned it. Fuel pump too. Runs good again.
She dropped me off and our wonderful son flew out . They freighted the rest of our load back to cabin. Which contained a 185 honda 3 wheeler. I can remember looking down on them from the plane when I took off . The pilot circled over them for me to make sure they got going ok. Was sooooo cool to see them working together. Both on the Suzuki quad just like when they were growing up. That’s another story. I need back up. I like to hike around cross country getting lost n such but I did kinda feel the 8 mile hike a bit fatiguing . But still fun . And pulled the trigger and just got our polaris 6x6 freighted out there yesterday. I had a good friend who is a real pro do this load . Snow conditions were bad . And of course one thing leads to many more. So had to ship enough lumber to build a shed around them to help deter the bears from eating them. I’ll write a thread.
I couldn’t have near the fun I have if I didn’t have my atvs. Just have to know how to keep them moving too. Giddy up!

Just found this pic. Maybe this is the all weather, multi purpose vehicle for people that don't have cabins. Lol
Or maybe it's someone from the city that just butchered a cow and realized they should have bought a freeeeeezer.

darz, I think it would of been easier to just fix the cars original AC unit.

Great story Ak. A daughter who rebuilds carbs.. gotta love that!

I've often wondered how you way northern guys keep all your stuff running in very cold temps. I have enough trouble keeping mine going at well above freezing.

I have seen that set up on a couple different vehicles over the years and I always thought the same thing as you... Just fix the A/C.

Till one day I got to talking to the driver of one of those (it was a big Ford Station Wagon), and I asked him what the deal was with the A/C. He works as a contract delivery driver for fruit and flower wholesalers, and he need to keep the stock cold. Some times all day during deliveries and even overnight from time to time. He said it looked crazy as crap, but it was MUCH cheaper than a reefer truck, and his city has ordinances over parking big commercial trucks at his residence.

it made a whole lot of sense at the time...

paulz the worst problem I have is machines not being used. Seals n o rings don’t get lubed bearings don’t turn. Carburetor gets clogged. I use a lot of stabil n red heat. Did I mention that you have to have some weird inner drive to always want to work on machines.
Probably the biggest drive is they help get me outdoors. And getting to some of the place’s I’ve been to because I had a good wheeler n knew how to maintain it and use it helped. I just remembered a caribou hunting trip n having to go down the side of a mountain n hoping that we picked the right spot because there was no braking. And didn’t drop off the cliff edge into a river if we screwed up. Still makes me quiver a bit.
I have a great admiration for the outdoors and am always aware of not damaged the earth.
And my beautiful wife was looking around n found a Suzuki 230e . A little 4 wheeler that has reverse n electric start for a good price. I don’t know how this happens. But I know she had a great time taking our grandson for a ride. And today’s plan, a family ride.
Teaching others about all the different things outdoors is enjoyable to me. I’m blessed to be able to have a cabin to share with my family.
