Hey,
I am considering installing a 350 gallon underground tank, an RV toilet, and when only not using the outhouse - use this instead.
From my estimates it could take 7-10 years to fill up in my usage. I will then pump it out when it gets to that.
I will just have the toilet dump it in there. I will have a 3" pvc vent pipe going 3-4 ft above roof line with air back draft on it.
So the question is - will this stink?

At my place I have 2 800gallon concrete holding tanks buried in the ground. All my shower,sink,toilet,etc. Goes into it. I live here fill time and the tanks are beside my deck. They do not smell. I do pump them every 2-3months.

Why not just go the extra step and dig a small drain field?

If your putting anything but TP and bodily fluids in that tank it will be very hard for the septic truck to pump it out. If your putting a flush toilet into it it will fill with liquid fast.

A septic tank is a waste solution for buildings that are not connected to a municipal sewer system. It's a big underground tank that's connected to your toilet and you fill it up with shit. Then microbes break down the shit and toilet paper. Eventually, you need to have your septic tank pumped. They are very common in houses in rural areas.
People in the UK definitely have them.
More people in the UK live in city centers like London than in the countryside but people in the middle of nowhere Scotland definitely have septic tanks.

A tank is only half of the septic system...a tank with no leachfield is just a holding tank and may need to get pumped every few months...there was a thread about this months back.
