So I found some 12 VDC in line bilge fans that i want to use to move some air in my wildlife viewing stand.
The amp draw is 2.5 amps, so 30 watts. If i had a 50 watt solar panel hooked directly to the fan would it spin up when the sun fully hits the panel? or if i have it controlled by a t stat will a 50 watt panel run the fan?

Probably yes, but possibly only when you have REALLY good sun at the right angle. The amount of time in the day and number of days my 60 watt panel makes over 60% of it's rated output is surprisingly low.

You have to be careful, many "12v" panels will put out 17-18 volts, and some 12V fans may not be able to handle more than 16v.....

30 watts seems like kind of a lot to move some air. Is this to keep a person cool or just circulate air through the stand?

Yes in theory this would work but Nate's right - the panels are going to put out more than 12 volts and with nothing in between like a charge controller to regulate the load you might smoke the fan.

You can get a cheap charge controller for like $15 and a small AGM battery (7ah or so) for like $20 on Amazon. A little wiring and you have a more robust setup you can do a little more with later.

Why not just use a rechargeable fan? You can get 8 and 10in right off amazon.

The last blind i use ultra silent computer fans with a thermostat, small solar cell, controller and batter and they work good but i need more airflow for then new blind. I found some bilge ventilators that more alot more air and are quite running, so going to try them on this one.
I want the fan to run off a thermostat and keep air moving even when i'm not in there, seems to keep bug and pests out.
