Friend gave me this last week (and a bunch of other stuff I'll probably bore you with later). I'll probably just put it on the mantle at the cabin but I'm wondering what it took for a battery. Any guesses?

I'm thinking one of those large squared "6V lantern battery"

That was my first thought of course but the area where the outer spring would hit is painted. The switch on the side, barely visible in inside photo, slides and has a point that looks like it contacts something. Maybe there is a part missing.

What bulb is in it? That should give you working voltage. Might be easy to use LED for longer battery life and standard batteries

Bulb is a 502, 5 volt?

One thing neat, the lens telescoped when turned, thought that was a more modern idea.

502 bulb has E10 threaded base. Might find a LED bulb with same base and connect battery holder that will fit in allowed space. Use largest cells that’ll fit so you’ll get most lighting time. New setup will probably get better battery life than original setup.

Yes that would be the thing to do. Would be neat for a workman's light. But I think it will just go on the display shelf at the cabin, got enough flashlights.

Thanks!
