I'm building a very tiny bathroom in my cabin and was having a lot of difficulty find a sink that was small enough and wasn't crazy expensive. So I found a nice rock on the property and pulled out my angle grinder. I did have to buy a couple of somewhat pricey bits. So my "free" sink isn't exactly free. Now I'm set up to make other things. I'm working on a couple of granite book ends now. The sink only took me a couple of hours. I sprayed it with some clear acrylic enamel. I think it turned out pretty nice. Can't wait to install it this weekend.

Nice! Got a photo of the bits you used?

Make a matching soap dish.

Here is a picture of the bits. I'm still waiting on some polishing pads in various grits. They are on the slow boat from China. The sink pics are just the rough grind. Once I clear coated it I thought it looked alright. Don't know if I'll ever get around to polishing it now. We'll see when the pads come in.

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone. I always get inspiration from everyone’s projects. I thought I’d return the favour.

I hope that I don't cause any of you guys too much work making sinks for your spouses.

I just remembered that I started this thread and thought I'd follow up with a couple of pics of the final product. I thought it might be a good setup for someone's outhouse. The water pump is just a USB rechargeable pump that pulls from a reservoir. We mostly use the sink for tooth brushing. The water just drains under the cottage.

Very nice!

That must have produced an awesome amount of rock dust. How long did it take to grind it?

This is actually version 2 of my sink. The rock that picked out the first time turned out to be a bit too big. The first one was a black granite and seemed to be a much harder rock. It took me 4 hours of grinding. The orangish one was a lot quicker to grind and only took about 2 hours. I used the thin bit to cut slots and then a chisel to knock out the bulk of the material.

Did you use up multiple grinding wheels?

The third post down in this thread shows all the grinding wheels that I used. They all wore down some doing 2 sinks but still have a lot of life in them.
