We did the 10 hour drive from the cabin in Colorado back to north central AZ and the city home. We have pretty much lived at the cabin the last year and a half... a week to 10 days back here 4-5 times in that time. Kind of wonder sometimes why we have 2 homes. That said this is a wonderful "retirement " home, one level, easy to heat and cool and in a great neighborhood... neighbors really get along here and look out for each other, we don't have to worry about leaving this house empty. The cabin life suits us at this time in life, both just 65 (today is my wife's birthday) and very healthy.... well except me being one armed. We just finished cutting, splitting and stacking 5 cords of wood. So this get away is supposed to be a time for my remaining arm to heal from a bad case of over-use... basically do nothing for 10 days... I hate doing nothing! (BTW, I use an Echo CS-330T top handle chainsaw if anyone was wondering how a one armed man fells trees and cuts firewood! Great saw! My wife also helps limb and block it up with her $45 craigslist Homelite find... it had one day of usage and sat for a year, a little work and it's pretty good saw.)
We haven't been here 24 hours yet and I'm thinking about all the projects still needing completed before winter hits. Our greenhouse is doing ok for the first year's planting... soil needs work, but I need to get it insulated on the north side, some on the east and west, and get a diesel heater in there or I can kiss all the tomatoes and squash goodbye. I need to build a sled big enough to put our 125 gallon water tank on. We used 7 gallon totes last year and they are just to heavy to fill and haul by hand. I'm planning a lean-to on the end of my newly built shop for our Geo Tracker.... it's going to get tracks put on it this year. Most of my arm pain this year started last winter driving a snowmobile one handed.... tracks on the Tracker should help that...plus be fun! Gotta get the chimney pipe changed, and get the snow guard steps up the roof. Hopefully will get some batteries while we are here and hook up solar to my new shop... have the SCC and inverter already.
PLUS... get some hiking in! We have just over 100 trail miles in this year... no backpacking which for us is crazy! Over the last 5 years we have averaged 700 miles a year with at least half that being backcountry packing. Too much work at the cabin this year..all that's gotta end!

Happy Birthday Mrs. Nobs! She sure sounds like a trooper. My wife is too, albeit also one armed (and one legged). The years (30 now) of being so are starting to really take their tole on her good side. So take care of that one good arm.
I live in a pretty nice area, NorCal coast, when it's not on fire, but I'm envious of both your locals. I've circled Colorado and visited northern Az (Flagstaff, Sedona, Prescott), both places I'd like to be.
Not ready for winter by a long shot. Rain only but being in a deep forest, once it's wet it's wet until late spring. As in mud. I have a big pile of road base to spread, but need to finish my new shop roof and get a bunch of lumber and junk sitting outside, inside, first.

I'm at 30 years myself this year of being a bit disadvantaged! Yep, 30 years of living, working and playing one armed has been taken it's toll... so hard to take it easy though!
Our "City Home" is in Payson, AZ... south east of Flagstaff about an hour, and 2,000' lower in elevation, we are at 5,000'. This year was so hot even up here in the pines, it was up over 100* or just under for more than a month. Great right now but excessive heat warnings for this coming weekend.... would rather be in Colorado! Our highest temperature up there this summer was 85... and that is a bit higher than normal. Warm year.
