Saw this on my car forum. Many of us tow trailers, and get tailgated. This guy bolted down a pipe wrench to appear to have been left there. Instant space!

A buddy of mine has a baby doll nailed to a plank and bolted to his bumper.
The bumper sticker above it says "Baby on Board"
And yes, he is a bit of a jokester.

I would say it’s a clever idea but as a guy who has been put through the ringer by the DOT I would not want to give them any reason to pull me over.

Pull over and let them pass. I dont enjoy being behind a slow moving vehicle with no room to pass. So I try not to be that guy even when towing.

One trick to eliminate tailgaters, just gently touch on the edge of the road shoulder to toss up gravel/dust and folks back off pretty quick as they know Gravel + Windshield don't get along too good.

I let the extemely speedy dolts pass me and lead the way, it is actually pretty fun to catch up to them and pass them while they are getting the tickets. I suppose it is an advantge of being rural & remote, you know where the cops sit filling their monthly ticket quota's.

Yes, I call them "cop lure".

Ironically, when I was young, I was one of those "extremely speedy...". At least my wife claims so.
Things have changed since, with age.

As was I, and not that long ago. When I bought my property 12 years ago I commuted to it with this VW Rabbit diesel pickup. The thing handled like a sports car, got 45mpg, loved it. But I didn't tailgate, never have, just went around.

It eventually blew a head gasket and I decided air bags and crumple zones were probably a good thing in the country.

WOW, I haven't seen a Rabbit Pickup in ages, Pocket Rocket Hauler those little beast were. A buddy had one and geez Louise that little thing could haul ass & stuff too... and FUN ! many fond memories.

@Cabin Builder, yeah "Cop Lure" hahaha, it's is huge fun when you know where the traps are and the weekenders are so clueless... It's a natural and the fools these days are even worse than normal. I was chatting with a local OPP Cop and he was laughing saying that speeders used to get clipped for 20-30 over the line but now some are getting clipped at 40 50 & more... They take the car at 40+ over the limit and impound rates now are insance ! Hell of a topper for being stupid and getting caught.

Grey Hair sometimes IS a sign of Wisdom (lesson learned & retained). Made similar comment to my hairdresser as she was mowing my Covid-Interruptus Long Hair Growth and lopping off all that Wisdom Silver Streaks. (what's left is all grey anyways).

They are collectible now. The kid that bought it sent me a photo six months later. It had a whiz bang late model TDI engine in it, fancy paint and wheels. I got a lot of use out of that thing, got me through my cabin build pretty much.
