Quoting: ICCPerhaps your county is different and does allow a habitable building of less than 200 sq ft to be built without a permit? Hmm, thanks, I hadn't considered the definition of "accessory". My sister did something similar d...

... One-story detached accessory structures used as tool and storage sheds, playhouses, and similar uses, provided the floor area does not exceed 200 square feet....." That wording that I placed in boldface means you cannot build a legal habitable building without a permit, no matter the size. PLus the use of the phrase, "accessory structures", means that to ...

I am not certain right now on status; but do know that there is fire very close from 2 directions and resources are all but not available. The building and property are pretty hardened for where I am at in the build process; all metal siding, roofing, and soffit with very good defensible space around the places. There are 16 resid...

They would not sign off plans to be built this way because it is not a structurally sound design. US building codes specifically state that each rafter pair must have a rafter tie located across the wall top plates and connected to the rafters in accordance with a nailing schedule. Things co...

Is this location governed by building codes and permit needs? That may influence what and how you do this. Are the existing roof sections built using factory made trusses or are the roof sections rafte...

... a semi-retired guy who liked small jobs on the side and I couldn't say no to doing less work at the time LOL. I also hired a local semi-retired electrician to get my power pole setup without a building permit. He knew the inspector and it cost me ~700$ to have it installed with his cost along with the permit fees.

Maybe by putting in that it is an existing structure it might by-pass the 'building permit'? I'll have to see what it says, easy enough from my comfort chair when I get an extra hour.....

The next step I would take is to call the building dept and ask when they expect for a permit. In my town all the electrical inspections are done by a 3rd party.

What ICC said... more or less. Depending on the wiring of your cabin they may not even allow the lines to be energized. My experience is the building being hooked up must have a permitted/approved electrical system before they will install the meter. A work around may be to install a permitted me...

Why dont you contact the people making the shell of the building and ask about a totally finished building? That way you would need a septic( possibly if you couldn't tie into your current one) and permits.
