... concern bigger than job difficulty now leans more towards the Inspector saying...no...you shouldn't have built it like that. The Town does not require any stamped, engineered drawings to get a building permit but depending on the Inspector I fear he could call us out on it after its built. That would be a crushing blow. We are wanting to keep things simple. We...

...me that a Dropped Loft would not meet code. The Town itself has no requirements or even Zoning...only what the State of NH goes by which I believe I was told was the 2015 International Residential Building Code. The Town does have a Building Inspector that must give an Occupancy Permit before moving in. With the Rafters spanning the 24 feet we were...

That would be a nice size. Be aware that building on a slope has some very important considerations especially for a sizable structure. On grid, off grid, well, septic, permits/inspections, etc? For a new build of t...

Around here some small structures are often allowed before the major one, presumably for materials and/or tools, etc., but the major building must be approved and permitted and you have to a certain date then construction is to begin. Extensions have been granted but I heard one is allowed so it doesnt bec...

Where I live (in urban Alaska) an accessory building up to 200 sq. feet can be built without a permit, but it can NOT be lived in. Living in it, even as a getaway on weekends, requires permits and code...

...6x6 posts in concrete" In my opinion, scrap this idea. Pour the concrete below the frost line in the ground and then up above the ground (10-12 inches above grade) should work. Then fasten the building to the piers. You will not have to use treated for the beams across the concrete, but use of the treated would help prevent insect infestation. If you use untreated, cover the tops...

...breeze, all very nice folks, freindly and all acted like they are working for me, which is the way it should be. Very helpful, the entire process took 20 minutes, this even included the planning dept stop first, then building dept. They reviews my plans and called me telling me it was approved. The plans I bought online, using some whiteout, made changes ie moved a window, went to a wider...

Most of those no-permit-needed things are also worded to allow the non-permitted structure only as an accessory building. The word accessory is very important. Where I am the rule goes on to state that the non-permitted bldg would be used as a storage ...

...a sq. ft. requirement such that once it's met a permit is required (e.g. 200 sq. ft.). What's to keep you from parceling off a piece of your land, "selling" it to a relative, and building 2 200 sq. ft. structures right next to each other but on separate parcels, essentially creating a 400 sq. ft. structure without a permit? I guess n...

Definitely start with the driveway, but the same companies that can help you with that can also remove trees and clear your building area, and build you a nice gravel pad to build on. Call a couple excavating companies to come out and give you a quote on gravel and grading for the driveway, clearing trees and lev...
