Have you talked to the town and/or the APA about your plans? Why 500sqft? Do you need a well, septic or site power to get a building permit in your town? Theres many questions to ask the people who give you permission to build. Outhouses are not legal any where in NY.

...r roll with the punches and speed up some planning. Now I just hope I can show some progress before my permits "runs out" (you have a 6 month time window to show progress as per the Ontario Building Code, which means having footings dug and inspected). Given that I am one guy doing this by myself and not a contractor building a house I may get...

...of cabins and off grid living.... now it is my turn to have some of that life. i own an acre and a half up in the cascade mountains about 15 minutes from a ski area which is pretty sweet, but makes building tricky because not only do you have to contend with the snow in the winter, it is washington, and i am only at about 1500 foot elevation so it can snow one week, and then rain for th...

Hello everybody, I hope the summer finds you well. So I'm considering building a 12x16 or 10x20 to stay under the permit guidelines and was wondering if someone could give me an idea of shell cost. I've got a list together and searched o...

Lippy667, The property is in Osceola county and there is no zoning for my particular township nor at the county level. So I do not have a minimum square footage to meet. My concern is building permits. I contacted the building inspector asking if an Amish pre-made structure would pass building inspections and this was his ...

... the right zoning, there is a good chance you can still get all the permits you need for what you want. Go to the local zoning department and ordinances first. If they approve something, the county building department has to go along with it unless it is unsafe. I spoke with the county bldg department first also, and he told me they don't allow cabins, had to be a...

If they're fairly lenient though, it's a way to get/demonstrate access at the building permit stage without having to sweet-talk the railway. I had purchased two sets of plans to study because the township here in Northern PA requires following IRC building codes in order to get an occupancy permit on build completion. They require 2 sets of plans. Also learned that IRC codes are from Britain? Huh? Thought we broke free...

...1986I read a lot on this topic and I want to try out coupling rebar. They say it's easy to install and it's way more strong. As far as I know, Hardman company uses it for different kinds of buildings so I'm pretty sure it would be enough for a cabin. Not sure why you think that is good stuff for a cabin? It would appear to be great stuff for building dams,...

Does anyone any resources to suggest of where to great bunkie plans? I’m finding not a lot of great stuff online, especially ones that fit the less than 108sqft (10sqm) “accessory building” or “shed” requirements for not needing a permit. What did you use? Have any great resources to share?

...ember, it's easier to get forgiveness than permission. From your posts, it seems you have 60 acres. I probably would have gone ahead and built and said forget the permit. Where I live, county building permits serve only to notify the assessor to inspect the property and raise your taxes. My cabin is less than 100 feet from a river and certainly...
