I have a cabin which has a fairly large porch. In the summertime, we just leave the window open all year with just the screens on. There are 8 5'x4' windows.

In the fall when winterizing the cabin we put large clear plastic up and attach it with staples and then lath with small nails. We pull everything down in April.

We have been doing it this way for years, however I know that there has to be a better, easier way. The windows frames are just made with 2X4s.

Any inexpensive ideas. If I'm going to change the setup I'd like to do it either in the spring or fall.

I should mention that there is no glass in the windows.

Thanks,
Bob

You could make some framed Plexiglas panels that mount over the windows with screws, bolts or levers. Plexi can be a little pricey but you may be able to get a good deal if you buy in volume, wholesale or on sale.

Do you need a clear View? Have you considered Clear Corrugated Panels?

They're not the best view to always look thru, but you can see thru them & they store very easy off season.

If you like the clear plastic, why not build a frame with the plastic sandwiched between the wood and hang it on the window frame? You can use hooks and eyes. There are a number of ways you can secure the frame on each side and at the bottom. If you place a thin strip of rubber where the 'storm window' rests against the existing window frame, you can get a good seal and keep the window frame ding free. Then just store them away every April. Also, on days when you want to let some air in, you can undo the fasteners and prop the bottom open.

Transparent vinyl sold by meter for table cloth, put it on wooden frame as regular window.
