We put a new metal roof on our steeply pitched cabin a few years back. The chimney sits near the bottom, near the back as the roof changes from steep to nearly flat. Without fail each year the snow rips of the chimney despite everything we've tried. Reinforcing with cables and such. We can't create a channel big enough to redirect the snow around it. What are my options? Someone suggested putting some spikes in along the back of the roof. That way all the snow wouldn't fall off the roof, taking the chimney with it. Would that work? It may be possible to take the chimney out the side of the cabin and then up. Would anything with heat work to keep a channel around the chimney open? Thanks

I think I have an idea, but I am not sure how to explain it...

Consider making a triangular shaped partition between cabin chimney and the roof, narrow at the top and widening toward the roof and chimney base. Perhaps made of a sheet of metal bended almost in half, sides down, to the width of the chimney.
It will prevent snow from building up behind the chimney and will spread it to the sides.

Something like this:
