I'm envious, but I'm sure there are some pretty hard times in there.

I live in Silicon Valley which is of course grossly overpopulated. But there is an interesting story from the early days of Santa Clara Valley. Not too long after the gold rush a guy named Elisha Stevens moved into the west Santa Clara Valley area and set up a blackberry farm. This was before the fruit orchards, when there were no other people in the area, except perhaps some Indians. Stevens favorite meal, they say, was rattlesnake. The story is that when some other people moved in about 10 miles away from Stevens, it irritated him so much he pulled up stakes and left for the San Jauquin Valley and was never heard from again. Now the place is home to several million. One less when I retire.
