Dick Proenneke is my hero.
Loved his book and loved the documentary.

New to the website..excellent & helpful!
I'm also a big fan of DP..After reading his book (written by Sam Keith) and seeing the various videos (by Bob Swerer Productions), I had to see it for myself. Last year I visited his cabin sight in Lake Clark National Park. It took two small planes to get there but worth the trip! Very inspiring. It led me to recently buy some land with a small rustic cabin already on the site in upstate NY...I dont plan to live in it year-round, but I plan to use it as a get-away and place to get back to nature.
There is another book of his journals covering 1974-1980 (I think those years are correct)..Let me know if any interest and I can let you know where to get it.

Yes just awesome. I like the first one I seem to remember it being called Alone in the Wilderness. Inspiring, to say the least.

After reading the posts last week I had to order the video. I received it yesterday and watched it. It was really good. Now I have to order the other 2 videos. I recommend it.
