A key to "early retirement" is not to be a slave to your possessions. Own fewer things and a smaller home keeps debit down. Enjoying the simpler things helps. Freedom 55 here I come.

We love in Alabama, and I retired two years early this past August. Two weeks ago my wife and I purchased insurance through the HCE. Her policy is through United Health Care and is there best Platinum plan, mine is the top gold plan through BC/BS. Total price per month is $274.59. Last month the medication my wife has to take each month cost me around $600.00. Her policy will pay for itself in one month.

I've noticed a few replays from Canadians. If you live in Canada and you are making a retirement budget you do not have to try and figure out how much extra money you will need for co-insurance, deductibles and medicine. It is recommended that an extra $250,000 be set aside for these expenses for a healthy person, more if you have a lot of health issues.

Canadians still have to pay for their medicine. That's not free. Many like myself have a group plan through the office and pay extra for that. Once we retire we have to pay more for the same plan. My diabetic medicine is about $100 a month but I have a paid plan that pays 90% of that cost.
