271. Posted: 14 Sep 2014 08:03 - Properties / Advice regarding building/permits/surveying PLEASE!
Sorry no advice from me. I will say that things heal after time. Very few of the buildings on my town property have been permitted over the last forty years, yet they know all about them now and don't know or choose to bother me. That's in the U...

...ances actually say? Where I am you can't live in an RV on your land permanently, but if you have a septic system you can stay there 4 months out of the year. Not sure how far you will gets with building a house with garage to house the RV. If you try to get a permit for any building, they are going to closely scrutinize it. Anything permit...

...electric? Check state and local rules. That can vary a lot from place to place. Some states have special rules for limited use camps, as they are often called. Many states do not. ~~~~ Frequently buildings or land uses that do not meet the letter of the law are turned in to the government by others in the area. Those others are usually ones who have complied with the rules and get ups...

I'm in Missouri also and the county I am in has no restrictions. I have a dry cabin and an outhouse. Did not need a building permit for my cabin. I think there are quite a few counties in Missouri that are this way. The closer to a metropolitan area the more restrictions.

...ncern. We've decided to scale back our plans and build a simpler cabin using the 14'x20' barn and adding a simple 6' porch. I am posting today to get some opinions on the idea of building this on a 12' or 14' wide tri-axle mobile home frame. This would give me the option to move the cabin should we decide to build more permanent building in ...

Well. I came up Friday and all the gravel is down and leveled out. I need to get the building permit for the storage shed now. Installed a garage door for my girlfriends landlord over the weekend. I'm leaving today to get my work trailer so I can begin ...

...g, perhaps walled in with windows, on a hillside overlooking a forested draw. Peaceful place to just sit. Works out that a true octagon at 12 x 12 feet is just under 120 sq ft, the legal limit for a building with no permit.

Yes, I'm new. my first post There is nothing like building your own home and the pride of ownership. Not everyone can do that. I was just thinking that in the fair weather months, there might be a solution to help others and have a vacation...

... I know where bigriver's cabin is and I can tell you in that area of Missouri, there are no laws requiring you to have water in you cabin. Also, in most rural counties in Missouri, there are no building permits and no code inspections and all that bs. Although I don't live in it full time, my cabin has no running water other than caught rain for the toilet. M...

For a while I had my heart set on building a traditional cottage, but now we've come around to thinking that permit-free and off-grid use of the property is the way to go. So we built a really nice 12x...

I live in a state with lots of permits, taxes, fees and regulations. Let me first say building a cabin helped me find all of them. If I had to do it over again I would have just purchased a nice 5th wheel trailer and put it on my land. No permit...

They allow up to 20% of my property for buildings. More than that, I would lose my timber tax break on that 20.25 acres. Not sure if they would remove another acre for a second dwelling because my first certainly didn't occupy...

I am sure i have read all the posts at one time or another . If I'm not mistaken what the primary question was "Can I build without a permit ?" Not so much about the building codes but skirting town regulations . If you follow "Tiny Houses " you see fine examples of people living quite well in homes not permitte...

This was a large part of the beginnings of the building codes, which, among other things, reduce fire hazards by various means. But the codes have gone way, way beyond such basic safety rules and are so complex now that they resemble th...

Looks great Steve. I'm in the Ottawa area too. Do you think Arie would be interested in building one of his cabins on a water access only property? I'd be looking for something 12x8 or so (to stay under the "no permit" rules, and materials would ...

Best to check with your local building dept. before you start. In my area, they didn't even want to see the conduit burial or include it in a permit, except where it entered the footing of a ...

I don't have my copy of my drawings available to post at the moment. I used 10 - 4" x 6" x 3/16" x 27 ft long posts to set my building and dock out in the water. Seven posts are in the water and three of them are only 13 feet long and embedded into the slope of the shoreline. Nothing makes contact with the upper lev...

Many times that sq footage figure is for accessory buildings w/o a permit; not a habitable building. I recommend talking to the zoning and planning department and building permit...
