I never planned on a solar well when I had it drilled in 06. But trees would of rendered the solar well useless. The bunk room was actually the bathroom in the original plans. I just added bu...

Julie, I will make some of those too. I may buy some of the tin ones too, in the forest service brown color. OK, the well with solar panels are installed (removed when I am not there, they are heavy, I need to figure out something else maybe???) And my marker signs are up. I bought a brand new power post hole dig...

OSB was considered but quickly abandoned by the architect after this great find; Here we have the solar heated water contained in convenient twin liter flasks of glazed composite; Note; we've found that two of these is more than enough, even for this medium sized walrus.     ...tually, I wouldn't mind posting 20 or 30 funny keep out signs. That could be fun. At least people wouldn't think I'm some sort of nutty anti-social recluse. Maybe some warning about solar radiation and warnings about naked animals on the loose too.

Most of us on solar also run small portable gennies that plug into the panel. Sometimes on a switch. It's not hard to be your own manual transfer switch. The advantage of switching is it takes th...

... an eye on the Victron equipment now coming to the North American market. the european mfcts are really benefiting from a larger market base and providing proven top quality gear. They have an easy solar all in one out now. Literally a solar charger, inverter, charger, transfer switch even the ac distribution box all in one box. how easy is that. Plug your panels in...

...i imagine the auzzies have quite a few practical ideas about dealing with hot temps and drought. one technique I noted recently to keep water fresh is to put an air bubbler in. hooked up to a small solar panel and run during the day might be enough. and a simple sand filter for water does wonders according to the UN.

We actually have a wall of water in our greenhouse because we have a passive solar set-up. So we have eighteen, 25 gallon barrels of water stacked up in food grade barrels (450 gallons of water total). The water has been in those barrels for about 8 years now so ...

I am looking forward to the day Midnight Solar gets their inverter/charger line ready for prime time.     ...se it was the stuff we had at the time (built as much on the cheap as we could) as we had taken the electrical out of our garage at home. i'll probably just run a totally seperate system for the solar if i can ever afford to do it. thanks for all of the info

...you can leave the wiring from the generator shed to the cabin the same. You will need an inverter in the gen shed to convert the battery power from DC to AC. You just need to have designed a standard solar system with panels, charger, batteries and inverter. But, if you plan to switch the power source from solar to generator, you will also need a transfer switch.

So I could get somewhat accustomed to cabin living and solar power use if I bought one of these systems and started using it. A no name 2500 watt inverter. on a 1.3kw battery. that's pretty extreme. they also don't mention what kind of solar controller is included, or even if there is one. This makes this product a stay away from situation. My take on this would be a balqon 2kw or 160 amp hr 1500 a good quality 30/45 a...
