so I'm new to this forum, but very interested in any advice. I'm closing on 2/28 on 3 acres just outside of the Adirondack park. I will be meeting with someone who can build an Adirondack cabin, but not sure if Amish Durosheds will be cheaper or suit my needs. I plan on having a compost toilet, everything else will be propane. For now I will be using the cabin for hunting and fishing trips, family get together's, but as time goes on I see myself spending more time there.

Where outside of the adk park? Many people here build/drop off a small shed on there property to start, me included. The town/county most likely has a max building size before needing a permit. Call them and ask.
We are just south of Utica.

Before sealing up the camp, I would strongly recommend wiring with Romex 12/2 inside the walls for future power needs if ever desired. Lights and plugs (outlets). It is pretty cheap and saves a whole lot of effort later. If you have the height, consider a low-water composter if possible. Some people have had luck with sawdust loos but some have had problems with just composters. Propane is great but have CO detectors to monitor.
