Hi,
After thinking about it for years I'm going to build a cabin. I'm not sure about all the details of it yet thought. I don estimate that it'll be about 10X12 feat. It's up on a large piece of property my mom/dad own.
Building permits and limits are fairly simple, and not very strict, so I need not worry about them. (I've done some research)
I'm seriously thinking of using an A-Frame design for my cabin and devided it into the bottom floor and a loft type floor. I think this would be a good option and I don't see it leaving too much un-usable space. What do you all think?

I think having an additional (semi-)floor / upper bed area in the cabin is a great idea!
I wanted to keep my cabin structure simpler so I didn't do the loft floor, but afterward I wished I have done it. It would add a valuable space in the small size cabin.

We put a loft in our 12 x 16 cabin, and it works out great. Have not decided about the ladder just yet. Using a step ladder currently. It can get quite warm in the loft during the summer, so insulation and ventilation is a must, at least it is down here in Texas...

This sounds exactly like what we're about to start at my hunting lease. We're unsure of how to construct the loft without having to pitch the roof a lot. Can you post some pictures of the inside of your cabin so I can see the loft? Also, did you have your trusses made or did you do them yourself?
