On Aug 10, 6:30pm, I had a motorcycle/deer accident.
Deer 0, I won but mangled some....
Was only going about 35-40mph, large fawn came out of my left blind side, saw it half hop away then right in front of the front wheel. Hit, wheel forced full cock right and I was Hammered Hard into the blacktop at that speed. Thats was the last I remembered until sliding the last couple feet to a stop. Yes, had a helmet on but not much else, it was like 94*f; beautiful late aft/early eve for a ride 
Lots of road rash, partial dislocated left shoulder and a cracked rib/bashed ribcage.
We have gone to the cabin a few times but the ride has been painful. Mostly get there, futz around and take a nap.
Today the ride up was not particularly painful and I started the tractor (JD 1025R) and did some brush hog mowing and moved some slash piles with the pallet forks to the burn site.
Then the nap (that may be a requirement now?); it was good to actually do something

In the 90s. My father had a bad bicycle accident where he had a mechanical failure of the bike.he was on a wide gravel path going down hill. The last thing he remembers was pulling the handle bars out of the bike. He woke up with a cracked helmet and head full of gravel. Helmets of any kind can save a life. I'm glad you had yours on.

Was wishing Id had a 'full face' with the chin bar; I did ride my chin on the BT for a bit and the flip shield was road scarred 3/4ths across. That could have been my face. I obviously tumbled but remember nothing.
It could have been So Much Worse!
Ive been riding for 54yrs, over 250K miles and over 30 bikes; had quite a few 'downs' too (mostly in my foolish youth). At 70 I dont have any desire to take a repeat chance. Im done, I quit, all 3 bikes are up for sale. Ive got other things to do with the rest of my life.

I'm a rider myself and have worn 1/2s for many years, but my first one was a 3/4 with a shield. I've been thinking about going back to a 3/4 with a shield - after reading this, now I definitely will. I've known others to have been taken down by deer, and there are plenty of deer in Indiana.....

I'm very happy to hear you survived the encounter with the deer and it's also good to hear no body parts were actually broken.
I bought my first motorcycle in 1964, a '60 BSA Scrambler. I have had a few road bikes but I quit riding on public roads in 1981. (There were a few reasons.)
I had been riding trials bikes for a few years and kept doing that, on and off, ever since. Presently I have a 13 yr old Honda Montesa Cota 4RT (trials bike). I very much like the full coverage helmets for road riding; I had one of the first Bell Star in '68. For trials riding we move so slow that great ventilation is very desirable so no full coverage helmets for that.
FYI, a nice trials bike bike like the Cota only weighs about 175 lbs and runs 5 & 6 PSI in the tires (R&F). EFI, no carburetor.

Glad you're relatively OK!
Makes sense...not something I'd want to chance repeating, either! I've been lucky so far....I've come closer to hitting deer on my bicycle than I have on a motorcycle.
What did you have/are you selling?

gcrank1, I see you are a man of style and taste.
I have that exact TU and it is a wonderful little bike.
I would buy that SR500 in a heartbeat but you are a bit far away and I am about to pull the trigger on a 2023 KLR. I love those thumpers.

I just sold the TUX to a chap in CA, its got picked up by Haulbikes.com about 3:45 today, a very impressive outfit!
I had said I would likely keep that bike until 'the end' and I have. After all those years, miles and bikes that pretty thing has been one of my all time fav's.
Though Ive never had a KLR Ive thought on it, Im sure it will be impressive.
