Hey guys,

I'm putting up pre-finished knotty pine T&G on the walls in my cabin. Looking for your opinion on the trim. Should the trim be pre-finished too or do you think it would look good unfinished? I already have the knotty pine and I'm half way done with the walls. I haven't purchased the trim yet. I'm thinking I can use the packing boards the knotty pine came with and rip them down for trim to save a few bucks.

Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

I used 6"x1" Knotty pine to make all my baseboards, using a Router Table with a round profile with edge.

All of my window/door casings are 3-1/3" X 1" milled with Roman OGEE Bit and both edges.

Transitional Crowns from the walls to Finished Pine T&G Ceilings are 1-1/2" wide with 1 flat side (ceiling side) and matching Roman Ogee on the bottom (wall face).

All were finished with 3 coats of water-based Semi-gloss Polyurethane before installation.

All of my ceilings are 6"x1" T&G Knotty Pine with V-Grooves. That includes the cathedral ceilings and all flat ceilings (Bedroom & closets). My windows also have 6" Pine sills and framing like my doors etc... so it all ties together nicely.

I also milled Cove Moldings to make the "joints" between Pine Celings & the Pine Plank Walls

we did a quick white wash on our T&G. Really brightened up the place
easy to wipe off if it gets dirty and stops it from yellowing.

Some photo's showing some of the details.
Should note that all my cabinetry etc are all made out of 1" Thick knotty pine. Doors are rough cut faced (circular saw mill - same on beams & plank trims where applied) There is NO Particle board or OSB in use here (internally).

Bathroom is slightly different with Red Cedar Floors & Trims, Pine Ceilings and Pine door + window framing.

Imo, you need to pre-finish the trim.
I have some in our house that I regret not doing so for decades now. It was my lazy way out.....and I needed to get things done enough to live in.

I would and have pre finished trim. I also play to spray the back of my tongue and grove boards. Just a light coat then flip to the front and spray it also. Not applying some type of wood can invite mold if the conditions are good.

I would pre-finish the trim, too. I'm thinking it would yellow more quickly than the pre-finished walls.

What did you use for the white wash? We've been thinking about that for a T&G ceiling.
