Went to see our pre-built milled log 12.5x28 cabin at the factory yesterday 
They built it within 2 weeks of my closing the deal and made the mods I wanted.
It is a family run operation from sales thru build and delivery, and within 2hrs of us so qualifies as a fairly' local business' to me. I think of that as a good thing.
Now I have to get the site ready for delivery; hope we have an early spring!

This Fri morning will be six weeks since my SCA heart attack, started home rehab stuff two weeks ago and formal rehab today. Told them I need to be good to go by April to start prepping everything to move the cabin in. The admin gal liked that Im 'motivated'. I did well today too, better than average for what I had happen.
It is still winter here too, but has been 'unseasonably warm'; that is likely to turn any day now, lol.
Makin plans anyway, Ive got things to do!

Love those wood cabins! See 'em everywhere, and that design has been around for what seems like forever, but it never gets old. Good choice!

It is an unpartitioned open room, 12x28 (outside measure). Our old self built '83 cabin of 30+years was 12x24 so we are used to that kind of space.
The back end is all 4x4 windows, two across the back and one each on the sides; gives it kind of a glassed in porch effect. That will be nice in poor weathers to make a cuppa and take a sit looking up our meadow.

Great choice on the 4 x 4 windows . You're going to love them. Took months for me to finally make a decision and pulled the trigger on eight 4 x 4 windows. I was so excited when they were finally delivered, I installed them the same day.

Ask your builder to mill pieces of lumber to fit inside your window ( for security when you're not there ) from the same logs to match your cabin.

We've had it since 2020; it was a heap, the guy was a scrapper, we had a Lot to clean up, which we all did in 2020. I'd hoped to refurb to shack but it was too far gone. So after my reality check.....we decided late last fall to deconstruct it and 'do something else'. I knew that at my age and health issues I couldn't build from scratch, or even a kit, anymore. Not if we wanted to use it in the foreseeable future, lol.
I had this new cabin in the planning stage and back & forth with drawings and all when I went down. It took about 3 weeks to be able to get my head back together and finalize the design features and do the contract.
I had no idea they would build it so quick when she said 'you are next on the list'.
It, like our '83 self-built and the prev shack, will be totally off-grid; my elec system and no plumbing. We are classified as a 'hunting, fishing, recreational' cabin so we aren't hammered by code requirements like a house would be. This all per our township building inspector, btw.
My plan is to do rehab to the end of March so I have April to do the site prep and bring it in end of April/early May.

Im still working that out 
It is on 4 skids, press treated. The two inner skids are really only for being hauled on the trailer, not intender or necessary to be supported at site. The outer skids are 'engineer approved' to perimeter support the structure.
Our ground is fine, well packed sand with some gravel that is rather distinctive. We are in an ancient meteor impact basin (about 1mi. from grd -0- in a 4-5mi total radius. All that to say it is very well drained and well packed.
I could have a load of 3/4" crushed limestone dropped, slightly dome and extend a few feet beyond the cabin. I have my JD 1025R with bucket and a back blade to work the site. Im inclined to use 'silo block' ground pads, like 5-6 per side to sit it on.

I’m probably the last guy to give foundation advice, mine is on pier blocks! ICC or one of the other builders will chime in. Every locale likely has its own issues with ground stability, soil, temp etc..

I don't want it too far up/off the ground (I think).
The skids are 3x2by? pressure treated and so are the joists.

So you don’t see any need for under access? I have just enough room to slide around under for plumbing, floor maintenance/ changes.. not high on my list of things to do but it’s there.

Ive had that access in our '83 cabin for 30+ years and never 'needed' it, and still do with my prebuilt 12x16 toolshed/workshop (which is higher than I like, just might lower it).
I suppose planning for All Contingencies Id have it that high......

We scraped down to solid sand. Spread 7 loads of gravel in layers, a little at a time. I used 18" x 18" x 3.5" blocks from there. There's just enough room to crawl under.

I'd give yourself 18" min clearance. That gives you just enough room to slide around on your back underneath.

I'd try to keep it as high as possible to give yourself access, while still being able to have a gently sloping ramp into the cabin.....
None of us are getting younger and you never know when you'll need to wheel yourself or someone in....

Two ramps to get in my cabin. My wife was wheelchair bound when we met 30 some years ago, and way before the cabin. They are handy for me too when wheelbarrowing or hand trucking junk around.
