Hello,
I’m wondering if I can get advice on whether the underside of OSB sheathing in the roof of a carport should be finished in some way to reduce weathering. All sides are open. The roofing material is architectural shingles. I’m considering leaving it unfinished, priming and painting it white or spraying it with something like Thompson water seal. Any thoughts are appreciated.

OSB is impregnated with resins and waxes. Don't waste your money on Thompson water seal.
Paint it if the look of the osb is objectionable. However, my experience with the underside of osb roof sheathing is that nails that protrude make application with brush or roller a very poor experience. Spray it if you must paint it. Mask everything you don't want painted if spraying.
The osb roof sheathing will not degrade unless it gets soaked with fluid water often. That should not happen even with some of our wild weather.
If the unpainted osb is seen as being ugly then 1x S-P-F boards make for a more attractive finish. I have done that to the underside framing of a porch and gazebo we have. I used plain square edge boards from the sawmill, run through the planer for a smooth surface. No T&G, they were straight when installed and have stayed well enough straight to be better than bare OSB. Clear coated.

You dont need to do anything to it as no weather and no sun even get to it. I have a 7yr old open car port that I used plywood on and it's just changed color a bit as all wood will do with age.
Thompsons water seal is junk no matter how you use it.
