Limping through the second week of school for the kids...hit the home improvement store last night for supplies and will head to the lumber yard today. We leave for the cabin tomorrow and will spend the long weekend there working on flooring, interior walls, and wiring. My folks are going to join us, so hopefully the grandparents can help occupy the kids while the husband and I work!

cabingal~ your photos are making me hungry! YUM!!

I married off my only daughter last week! It has been a full year of time consuming planning, coordinating, arguing back and forth, but it went off beautifully and without a hitch. I even made my daddy & father-of-the-bride speech without screwing it up too much.
So, FINALLY, my buddy and I are up at my cabin enjoying a few days of R&R. Then we are actually going tent camping for the weekend. Then I am making my way back to my cabin for a couple of WEEKS of fix-up and doing stuff that I have totally ignored for the last year because of the wedding.

I think I need and deserve this away time.

I'm trying to get power lines run to my property. It's expensive and aggravating but things will be so much better out there when I have grid power so I keep pushing on.

Wish you could email me one of those pies, they look tasty

Welcome back cabingal3....Geez we've been missing you and GaryO....Those pies look delicious!!

This has been a crazy summer for us...We had to put down our dog, Fergie which was heartbreaking; and then got a new dog (chocolate lab puppy) named Molly. I had emergency surgery in July. Just got back from seeing the surgeon and he gave me the go ahead to get my life back again...woo hoo....But now I have shingles...grrrr.....Oh well - it's just an inconvenience. *S* We've also been doing canning (cherries and peaches) and I made up some spreads called sundae in a jar (strawberries, raspberries and chocolate liqueur), peach fondue (peaches and chocolate liqueur), and apple pie in a jar (an apple spread). I've also stocked up our freezer with muffins, bread, cookies etc. I figured while the motel was closed for my post surgery recovery I might as well get some other things done. *S*

We reopen our motel on September 10 to a full house. I'm looking forward to getting back into a normal routine again.

bobrok- congratulations on the wedding and yes-relaxation is in order! We married off the first of our six daughters the end of June-whew, beautiful wedding but glad it is over:)
Then we waited for our 2nd grandbaby to arrive and while we waited for him we found out a 3rd one was on the way! Exciting! After a tough beginning for our grandson he is now doing fine. Thank God.
Our cabin is slowly coming along and today was the 1st day of school for our youngest kids...
somedays I just hang on tight for the ride- and hope for a soft landing :)

OMG!!!! 8-O

SIX, as in 1-2-3-4-5-6, daughters?????

Congratulations on having a large family, but after going thru what we just did I cannot fathom the possibility of doing it five times more.

A tip of the hat to you, trollbridge! May the financial investment gods look with favor upon you from now until the end of time! :)

HA HA HA!!!!! Yes that would be nice!!!!

I know I don't want to have another wedding anytime soon either! We have done 3 in the past 4 years, but thankfully 2 were sons! Much easier, but still a big expense :(

Have a wonderfully L-O-N-G weekend!

Those pies look wonderful. We are just finishing up harvesting our tomato crop. It is a race between us, the grackles and the mice who gets the ripe ones. And getting our yard ready for the 3 cords of fire wood we have on order. I always feel better about winter coming on once the yard has stacks of wood everywhere.

Boy have you folks been busy doing "un cabin" things. We have just been sloggin' away workin' for the weekends and then headin' out to the shed for r and r. The lady wife started a new job in May so no holidays until next year. And I did not get any contracts until the end of May so I am trying to make up for the $0 quarters.

This weekend it may be cool enough to start cleaning up our old trail system and start the new ones on the new property we bought ....... and then maybe not.... Maybe we will just kick back and sip some beverages of choice and watch our little place slide into autumn. Have I mentioned I am inherently lazy????LOL

Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe last long weekend of summer.

Cabingal3,
Been living cabin life and building through everyone else's post. Have gotten septic permit and my loving brother and friend have been putting up barbed wire fencing plus 3 of 4 gates. Found long forgotten well on property but undecided on that or "city" water. Have yet to break ground. I won't be happy until I see fresh dirt. Currently planning on my gun carry permit class for the four and two legged varmint I have been finding about the property.
MISSED YOU AND GRAY!!!!

At home I have grown Hungarian peppers and have made 3 batches of paprika out of that. My daughter is planning a wedding for next year so I know the pain you all went through. This week we pulled 300 feet of power cable for future cabin. Took lots of pictures to document and hope to put a posting on here!

I have two active boys....10 and 12...both playing travel soccer...say no more...most weekends pooched!
I squeezed in our first father / son canoe / kayak trip down the Saugeen River in Ontario...that was my outdoor fix to keep me going till I have more time at the cabin this Fall.
Current project...have almost 50 - 60 cedar logs cut, stacked and drying for next year. My goal (you gotta have 'em, right?) is to build a small trappers cabin with my boys, so they have a "boy cave" to hang out when they want to come up with their buddies...plus I've always wanted to build a Log cabin.
Any of you folks have any advice....Welcome as always!
I'm just talking a little 12 x 12, 8 ft tall.
Not sure how I would begin the base...but have some ideas.
Cheers all.

Nice work. I've been able to give my new garden extra attention this summer since becoming unemployed. I made some changes and learned what to grow and not to grow in this area.
My estimated yeild so far:
200-250 lbs of tomatoes
150-200 lbs of cucumbers
60 lbs of red bell peppers
60 lbs string beans (output still to reach peak)
30 heads of lettuce
50 lbs of eggplants
60-70 ears of corn
40 lbs of yukon gold pototoes including one that was the size of a cantaloupe!

Still growing:
cayenne chiles
habanero chiles
halloween pumpkins
basil
cilantro

No show:
The whole dang strawberry patch
