I need to buy a Ice Auger, lets ss what you use and how much ice you have to cut to get water.
Any home made ones out there ?

Are you looking for a hand auger or power auger. In my opinion strikemaster lazer are the best hand augers for the money. I have an old jiffy power auger but never use it. the hand auger starts everytime. It also depends on what your going to fish for. If your going to move around a lot to get on a school of panfish you might want to go with power auger. I like to fish for Pike so I set my tip ups and jig for panfish to pass the time so I dont move around a lot. Where are you? Check Craigslist there is usaully someone looking to sell their stuff and you can get a whole outfit for a lot less.

I am looking for a power auger for getting water and a bit of ice fishing. I am in Newfoundland Canada the lake i need to get water out of gets up to 5' of ice

yeah man you're in a whole different ball game up there. Im in NY where it gets cold but 12"is a lot. I have seen people chainsaw it out and spud out the rest in a grid pattern. If your close by the water I would most likely cut a whole jig it for a bit or until you cant stand the cold any longer and then set up a tip up and check it often. Check the laws on tip ups most states you cant leave it unattended. I would imagine any place that gets 5' of ice is beautiful even if its a challenge, it will be like hitting oil once you break through.

bhebby is rite on,lazer is the best ,comes in 4,5,6,8.and10in depends on what you ar fishing for .i fish for eyes and pike with a 8in and pan fish with a 5in.. do not drop it on the ice or push to hard you will bend the blade do not use it in muddy ice.. they all work when they ar new..

just looked at that link.....my .02 ..... I would cut through a grid work and just keep removing the ice.I have seen it done before on tv on an ice fishing program. 5' of ice means at least a 5' auger blade. I think the saw alone would do it. Guys do it for spearing fish in upper midwest. look on you tube Im sure there is a spearing video.

StrikeMaster is made about 10 miles from my home. You need a pretty big extension for that thick of ice. We may get 24-30" in a cold winter.
Fleet Farm here sells an Eskimo, that you can switch blades for dirt use, also. And vice versa with the Earthquake. Same auger, different paintjob.

Sounds like you need a power auger, I would get a good auger and extensions if you need it. Again just my opinion but get the right tool for the job,especially if your going to depend on it for food and water.
