we are considering a 12x24 barn style roof with half loft for two twin beds a full size on main level approx 8' of cabinets small loveseat and chair card size table and small closet for portapotty to not have to go out in cold at night. Seem like too much for the size? It is hard to imagine spaces of what will work. I am looking for the minimum size to be comfortable and have everything at the cabin when we go. I am tire of lugging camping equip both directions. Let me know your experiences

my 1st cabin was 18 x 18---barn roof and loft sleeping---then i added a 8 x 8 bathroom, because i did not want to use up my space for a bathroom, next was a extra bedroom a 8 x 10----
now in my new cabin is 20 x 30 with a 12 x 20 loft-( dryed in at this stage) and i wished i had built it bigger---when you add this and that ---it get's full QUICK!!!!!
make it as big as you have the time and $$$ :-)

Thanks. I may ad we are not having electric or plumbing and the cabin will be mostly for sleeping, most of the day will spent outside unless the weather is bad

You may want to check out this website. With some experimenting the site allows you to draw your floor plan to scale, and then you can import scale items like furniture, cabinets, bath and kitchen fixtures, doors and windows and so on.
I've been using it to experiment with layouts for a 16x20 that we are building. It's nice to be able to visualize the layout and move things around to try different layouts.
Best of all it's free.

what you're talking about is basically a studio apartment. my wife and I are at the planning stage for a similar size build and have made some 12th scale models of various layouts to help us decide. the models can be simply made from cardboard and should help you out.

While you are building, I would wire the cabin for AC despite you not necessarily planning on electricity at the moment. The material is cheap, and not hard at all to put in. Even if just a couple light fixtures and outlets.
You may change your mind someday and retrofitting it would be a huge pain.
