Were looking at some acreages in North lower MI. found out it is zoned forest recreational. Called the zoning lady. I can build up to 250sqft floor area with a zoning permit but no inspection. Although you need a building permit for over 200 sqft. Seems odd? Also I can build a hunting/fishing cabin as long a it is not over 500sqft, it is not a residence, and I can not stay there more than 120 days in 12 months. I can leave a RV on the land on a year round basis as long as I do not live in it more than the 120 day rule. Do not need to have a home first before brining in electric, septic, water well, or build a garage.
I'm not looking at doing anything big. 12x20 with a gambrel roof and full lot. Just enough room for 2 adults, 2 kids. I can go up to 18'tall with a side wall no taller than 12'.
do I disclose the structure will be a hunting cabin? Our just call it a shed? I'm not sure what a true definition of what a hunting/fishing cabin is? Can it be rustic or does it need to be built like a home with all the extras to satisfy the permit?

go with hunting cabin---hunting /fishing cabin are usally seasonal places where you stay to hunt and fish=== who knows how much time you spend there????

I have a place on state on forest ground in PA and similar rules apply for not being able to live there year round. There is no way for them to really catch you living there year round, as long as you have a mailing address not locally you will be fine. I have a hunting and fishing cabin, but mine was left to me by my grandparetns so i can not help you on the building regs. Good Luck

As of now its just for weekends and a few weeks here and there. Eventually, years down the road it will be an extra area for guest or when the kids get older and want to have their own space... once the house is built.
